Are these MCBs actually rated for 12v dc? You need a better quality of contact (less prone to corrosion, ie a better quality of plating) for lower voltages than you do for mains voltages. That's exactly the question that went through what passes for my mind. Not only a better quality of contact but greater separation and a 'snappier' disconnect mechanism.

"Upon expiry, cancellation or surrender of the licence, the holder shall unless the Company have transferred the licence to a new owner remove the craft from the Bridgewater Canal, the Upper Reach and the Company's property and in default the Company may after giving not less than seven days notice in writing to the holder at his last known address remove the boat and, if they think fit, sell or break up the craft and recover the cost from the holder."

Mrs WotEver had it done a few years back. Local anaesthetic in the form of drops meant no discomfort of any kind. Then a little messing with a tool that you have no idea of the form of and then 'stare at the green dot while you smell your eyeball burning'.
Her eyes were mildly sore for a few days and she had to use eye drops to counter dry eye for a few months.
Would she do it again if she had to? In a heartbeat.

Very cool how he gets back up and strolls into the shop it looks like he was heading for as if nothing had happened. 10/10. He's probably used to being knocked down, and it has become sort of normal to him. Peter. I've heard it said that a person gets knocked down in the UK every few hours. I guess it must be him.

Thanks for that Tony. Its ok at the moment but I sense there may be a future problem so its handy to know where to go to have it looked at if necessary. Ta. Maybe better to get it refurbed at your convenience sooner rather than later when it leaves you stuck?

Tracey Ullman's got a new programme called "breaking the news", on earlier tonight. Well I am not often motivated to create a thread about a tvΒ programme, but I thought it was superbly observed and very funny. A hark back to "Spitting Image" but without the puppets. A must-watch. On iPlayer. We watched it and laughed louder than we have done for many a day.

The P4 is a 1950s unit I believe. so probably readily fettled by normal mortals then. Instead of the the current "sealed unit, chuck it and buy the special gold plated one" attitude with modern cars. Absolutely π

we used to clean between the segments with a hacksaw blade so that the brushes had better contact. I've done that in the past but modern motors don't give any spare depth between the segments and if you try it you just cut into the windings.

If it is a Bendix type (inertia) starter then I would take it off and inspect the flywheel teeth. The engine will stop in one of only two positions and inertia pinions are known to burr and wear flywheel teeth. make sure you inspect all 360 degrees of flywheel and look at BOTH sides of the teeth. A small mirror is probably required. We had a Moggy Minor many years ago and if the starter just whirred we'd put the car in gear and push it a couple of feet to move the flywheel round to where it still had some teeth π

Solar has cut out all my generator running, battery charging, and petrol fetching. I like peace and quiet, people running engines and generators at moorings gets on my tits. How does that work out for you in January?

The fact that the 47 year old white man is thick as a brick and can't tell the difference between Islamic Terrorists and Muslims doesn't detract from the fact that he killed people and attempted to create terror within the Muslim community (something which has been reported that he's achieved). Ergo, it was a terrorist act. Hmm There are suggestions that the man who died was receiving medical attention and may not have died as a result of the vehicle incident. And I disagree about it being terrorism. The authorities are using this term but it does not seem appropriate. Terrorism needs organising. Calling it an act of terrorism is throwing petrol on the fire ! One Muslim was reported as saying that his community 'didn't feel safe'. In other words, he was terrorised. Looking at it a different way, if the authorities didn't call it a terrorist act there would be accusations of racism and bias; it's only terrorism if the perpetrators are Muslim...
