Wayne is miles ahead of me on the picture front, but in my defence I'm now against the clock with two boats - my mate has taken ownership back of the Ormelite Northern Star from my brother (who remains on Gordon's stool...!) I now have a few jobs to do for him too! The heads are close by being done, everything is screwed down and plumbed in. Just need to refit the Walas heater and do some sundry tidying jobs and we are good to go. Will be concentrating on finishing the cooling system if the weather is against me painting over the next week or two. Pics hopefully to follow mid week And here is me stressing over one boat. T says it will be the death of me lol. Die happy atleast

Opposite way around here, its me getting fed up with it ( just the leak ) but T is a little fed with me spending all my money on it. As soon as the the new holiday year comes around in a month o so I may well take a long weekend or even a week on it. ah the Bank holiday will give me a good long weekend.

Well I have been having a go at my wiring after all.
Started yesterday took out the pair of matched battery chargers (each doing half of the battery bank) one 0 to 12v the other 12v to 24v. (Again historic reasons) My original battery charger was a Guest 10 + 10 (lovely little unit, only about 8" square about 3" thick, fully encapsulated three stage charger with 2 off 12v totally independant chargers) As a result it was wired up to suit that unit. when it went "bang" I replaced it with 2 Vetus chargers using the same wiring ...... probably not my wisest decision, but I 'aint gonna change them now.
As the batteries are near to 100% charged, I also took out the solar charging unit and all the associated wiring except for the isolator in the input cables. The feeds to the inverters and their associated cables and the mains feeds to the electrical panel. My saloon looked like a bomb site, I had laid all the units out on the floor and tried to re-arrange them in a sensible order in the same space as available in the engine room. The only bits left connected were the feeds for the water pumps and the toilet.
Today has been spent bolting most of the main units back on the panel (that sounds posh ..... it's actually just a 3 foot square bit of 18mm ply screwed to the engine room bulkhead !!!) and completing some of the rewiring ......... once I got to the stage where the pumps were re-connected today, I was knackered and stopped. Place still looks like a bomb site but The layout in the engine room is starting to take shape. It's not my best work, a long way from a professional lay out but it is re-using almost all the original components and a high proportion of the cables. However it is a big improvement.

here's one of the Ormelite jobs - when Β the Kubota went in we only had time to knock up a riser for the wet exhaust, it kept it's dry original lawn tractor manifold and was lagged to keep it safe. I made this manifold some time ago, all I had to go on was an exhaust manifold gasket and memory. The gasket was good, my memory less so! I put the passage to take the water from the bottom of the manifold up to the top then out to the exhaust on the left hand side (front of engine) turns out there wasnt enough room as it fouled the alternator. The inlet elbow also fouled the starter motor in its original position - bottom right of manifold (to the rear of the engine) I wanted an in and out above each other to encourage full flow through the passage, the solution isnt quite how I'd like it but, it will be ok, just not Rolls Royce. The answer was to lop the end off, cut it at an angle, machine then cap the inner exhaust manifold to create a new passage, cap the end, re-drill and tap the 3/4 bsp fitting at the front left lower position. Fit a plug in the old position and then pass it to my mate for a lick of high temp paint and fitting. Thank heaven for work!

Another something and nothing job We've got a 10" water filter to deal with the rusty old galvy water tank - replacement of the tank is some time away, probably when it starts to leak π The filter bracket was a Micky mouse affair that has been slowly bending under the weight of the filter assembly. 10 minutes later it is now a little stiffer than before. Nasty steel that's properties are selected for press forming not weldability. Hence the tacks rather than a bead of weld.

staggered out of the engine room for a cup of tea and a sarnie ......... deeply deeply pissed off !!!
Spent about 2 bloody hours feeding cables from the engine room to the domestic 240v fuseboard (in the corridor by the galley) which has involved a hell of a lot of walking backwards and forwards as they kept hooking up on things. stripped them ready for terminating ...... and then realised I had cut them to terminate in the wrong place ...... so now they are too bloody short ........ and worse I have cable tied them all neatly to the cable tray and they all now need to be cut out and new cables threaded through.
I must be getting old and daft I thought it was going to be slow at three days ........ it's going to be at least 4 now ....... bloody ridiculous

Finally finished putting right this morning's cockups fortunately had enough cable to replace the too short bits ...... more for the scrap bin sigh !!! all terminated and cover back on the fuseboard and wall panels in the corridor re-fitted. auto changeover (mains fail/inverter) module connected but inverters not yet connected Loads of mess and kerfuffel in the engine room but I'm far too knackered to do any more today

What a 'mare John! Good to hear you are getting there though. No work on ours today we spent a few hours getting the Ormelite ready for paint on Saturday, all being well it and our E27 will be painted side by side this Saturday on a lovely spring day.... π The manifold was fitted and we had a change of tack with the worn prop shaft, for reasons I don't quite understand way too much shaft was outboard of the shaft log - it had been like this with the Stuart Turner, when I fitted the Kubota the shaft position was retained exactly as per the Stuart installation - as she was afloat at the time II couldn't see how much shaft was sticking out either. Today I decided the easiest solution was to drag the shaft inboard onto an unworn part, 3" cut off the shaft at the gearbox end saved no end of jiggering about fetching the prop off and turning a sleeve up. The coupling is a split clamp type so dead easy to reposition on the shaft. She will need work in a few years time; but, this method has got us out of a corner for the time being.

That's better!!! Paint done bar the chocked areas which will get done when she goes back on the launch trailer. My friends wife (who's legs you can see!) is slapping some Jotun on the Ormelite. After we finished painting I chopped up some ply to house a water bag tank on my mates Buckingham along with sorting a battery tray for the start battery we fitted back end of last autumn. I can now focus on finishing all the interior jobs unhindered by the weather πππ€πͺπͺ

Not the best photo but, this is my nearly 3 year old daughter's contribution to the refit. Ever since the kids Christmas party at the beginning of December she's been insistent on 'painting the red paint' well, Sunday was her time to shine! I let her splodge a bit about to satisfy her desire to do a bit. Once she had finished she turned and said 'Daddy, you can put the boat back in the water now'
