Trouble is, it's not all that long ago. Over the last 5 years we have had all the above introduced in our place. Accident rates are still the same, we employ the same clumsy dumarses - the only difference is that look like they have crashed into the safety ware shop around the corner!

Personally (in my opinion of course), that all the H&S we have to endure today, is only an attempt of getting people of the dole queue by creating meaningless jobs for idiots to state the bleedin' obvious to people who have oodles of common sense.

The man was a tosser at school, a Kin useless electricians mate, a kin useless storeman, but boy is he a steaming great useless kin H&S officer. In the present Nanny State climate he will, without doubt, go far. (with luck to another effin country)

I was doing some work with a major national company at work. Some of it involved us being in in a farm yard with several vehicles arriving and departing all through the day and at any one time a handful of people wandering around. The company's HSE bod was due to turn up on one day so for that day we all had to wear hi-vis, toe-tectors and safety helmets just to please him. All we were doing was videoing sliding car jacks under vehicles.

Nothing much I can get my teeth into until the weekend, so I thought I would modify a drive plate I acquired some time ago. The splines are right for a Borg Warner Velvet Drive but the pcd and OD are wrong for our flywheel. Not one to chuck things out its sat on the shelf under my bench waiting patiently for something to be done with it. I couldn't remember the OD and pcd I wanted, but seeing as the box and plate are now off it made sense to modify it to go in my onboard spares box. I bashed a 4 1/8" holesaw thru a bit of 2mm plate, it needed a little filing at the rivets on the flywheel side. Clamped up on the blacksmith's bench Gearbox side the original mounting holes have been plug welded and a few stitches around the OD. Flywheel side, 3 runs inside of where the springs are. Tomorrow it will go in the lathe (in the 3 jaw this time ) to have the OD turned to 181mm Then it's into the Bridgeport to drill 9 off 3/8" holes on a 167.4mm PCD (sorry about mixing English and SI units )

To a mechanical divvy like me, that's amazing.
I am very impressed, but before you get big headed, just remember who's saying it.

My brother (a builder) recently talked about getting an 8 by 4 sheet of 50 mil ply.
Our language is bizarre.

Not much progress today, the drive plate is at least round and the right diameter now! Tomorrow I shall make a mandrel to hold it the other face up in the Bridgeport, the original plate needs relieving with a slot drill to allow the bolts to sit square on the new plate, the 167.4 pcd is a bit tight for the bolt heads to sit nice and flat. My ex boss fetched 'his' rotary table away when he retired - despite not having a milling machine to use it on So, it will need holding and then drilling using X/Y coordinates off the circle center. The amount I have to do on other stuff tomorrow means I won't get to complete it till next week.
