I'm 54, a 'baby boomer'. There are countless millions of us who, in the next 10 to 15 years, will reach state pension age. And free transport, free prescriptions etc.
The pension age has already been increased twice. This will clearly not enough, as many of the new jobs being created pay zero tax due to low salaries combined with tax credits.
I can't imagine there will be much appetite for reducing the amount paid in pensions. It would probably be political suicide. I can see the other benefits being scrapped, in the near future, but what is likely to happen to the pension?
Will it be a case of more age rises, maybe to 75, 80?
What do you think?

And the Eastern European poorly-paid workers living in old caravans amongst the cabbage fields of Norfolk are sending a lot of their cash back to their home countries to support their families there, and for building their retirement house over there. Little of their earnings is being ploughed into Britain. I think they are not very concerned at the fate of British old age pensioners. I suggest cannibalism, they say humans taste of chicken, I just don't want to eat haggis made of humans who have been smoking as their lungs are all black and gooey inside; I think tee-total non-smoking vegetarians would be my choice.

tis a sad fact that the NHS pats itself on the back because we will (on average) live to a much riper, stinkier, sadder, more dependant, old age as a result of their sterling efforts.
watching my mum and dad struggling with decreasing faculties in their final years (neither of them was ill, just getting too old) saddens me and I honestly think that euthanasia (or assisted suicide) should be an option after a certain age.

Personally I don't think the pension system as we know it will exist in 15 years. The baby boomers (I'm one of them), despite having paid in for many years will no longer receive a pension. This might seem unfair but the massive debt the country has at the moment has in part at least been spent on baby boomers. Many if not most baby boomers are not poor, they have valuable property. Is it fair that the younger generations have to pay significantly higher taxes in order that older generations live in luxury while they themselves don't have a pot to piss in? Not just that, the younger folk also have to somehow repay vast sums spent on their behalf, when they were still children, on over generous welfare systems, wars etc? I think not.
Therefore, us baby boomers are likely to have to take it up the arse, so to speak.

The gubbinment policy makers I would guess. Maybe we need a universal income. Pay everyone £20k a year regardless of their situation. Raise taxes for higher earners and nationalise all essential services. ?
