As we are in Scotland it would be bad manners not to take home a decent bottle of malt. So any recommendations? I have no interest in paying silly money so budget would be around 30/35 quid.
any recommendations of one to look out for?

There is such a variety it depends on the type you prefer. Peaty or non-peaty as a start.
I am not a great whisky drinker but was seriously impressed with one last year, Bowmore darkest. Super smooth and multi-layered flavour. Around £60 though, sorry!
If you really just want to spend £35 there is a huge range but mostly slightly mediocre.
Oh and whereabouts in Scotland are you?

Cragganmore.
I haven't had a dram for about 15 years so definitely not an expert but I do remember liking Cragganmore. I also quite liked Balvenie.

I am heading to the gliding club (Feshiebridge, near Aviemore) for a few days, if you are passing...

if someone recommends their favourite malt and everyone goes out and buys it then the supply and demand balance is changed and guess what ............. the price goes up. Remember that a single malt is, by definition, subject to a finite and limited supply.
the moral of the story is - never recommend your favourite malt to anyone.

I can't imagine Martin buying a £30 bottle of single malt is going to have too much of an effect on whisky prices.

Gift shop in Oban has good selection - the whisky shop nearby not so good. Both near rlwy station.
Glen Keith. Braes of Glenlivet. Pittyvaich. Blair Atholl.
Any Flora & Fauna series.
Loch Dhu is a joke - toilet cleaner.
35 quid - dear oh dear!

Saarijärvi behind, Jyväskylä ahead... going via Luhanka and across Pulkkilanharju (look it up on Google?).
Whisky - aim for over 12 years, 43-46% screenwash - that's my rough guide.
Whisky shop in Skipton, I notice - could drive home via Skippy.
