Just putting this out there fro some reason, i am tired after a long day and as i am goosed all i have done is crawl around poking and tapping over the hull looking below water line even closer than when i stripped it back with paint stripper. Its fecked i would say. not like to me to feel overwhelmed with a project but after this closer look before i even sand blast it this weekend, finger crossed for dry weather. Well the lower chines at the bow end are bad, cavities of 12 inch from water line to stern in the space of 3 foot. in the area 8 bodged patches from the years gone by that are peeling/delaminating off so need to be redone. That is on one side in 3 foot of the below water line that i can see. I can feel even more as i go back FFS. Keel has been bodged..... No wonder there was atleast five coats of paint on it to keep it afloat FFS. What the hell have i done  ?? |

Do you need some more matting? I'd go for a wrap stem to stern, few inches above waterline and a few inches Into the good bottom new rubbing strip to hide transition from new layer to old so as to save fairing it in too much.
Keel is no biggy, you can sort that easy enough.
Folks weld up teabag narrow boats, you'll be right to get over the last big hurdle 👍🍻

Wayne, don't get down about it. Projects have a habit of having a wobbly time at some stage (usually when you think you have the end in sight) Looking at your project photo's I presume you are happy with the sides (I would imagine so as they are now painted) If your problems are from the chine down, as Gazza says, fill the gaps and sheath it. What about putting a rubbing band along the chine ? it would disguise any change in level and add a bit of extra protection as well. This picture of an Ormelite shows the strip which i a bit of teak capped with steel. Morning guys n gal
Well at last i got a good nights kip, even after the worries about the boat, T is not concerned for some reason after we spoke about it, she just said i will fix it some how lol. Sat here now i have the good devil sat on my shoulder saying stop dithering and just get on with it. The evil little shit of a devil hasnt woke up yet i don think lol.
Dont take this as an offence John or Gazza but you seem as daft as me.
A while back when i stripped it back and looked at the keel i though of making a SS keel band went from there to a full keel bedded in with Sikaflex, that just sounds like abodge for soe reason ? My thought for doing that for one reason is it will be good for trailering about to protect the keel and then also help towards the ease of keel repairs.
And around the same time i thought on sheathing it as you say Gazza, the whole area but just to the top chine blend it in then fit the SS keel for double measure.
The hull sides are good and will have the rubbing strips fitted when it is painted, i marked where the inner ribs are to screw through to.

I think it as it is so close, and now the last kick in the nether regions i feel it as a big knock back and good weather for doing the job is running out,
I finish early i hope today and tomorrow so after work i will get the tarps ready as i need to fence of from the path and cover the boat as good as i can for blasting. I had to cut and sew together a 5mx4m tarp for the front of the house and another 6mx4m for the sides. Hood still hasnt arrived yet FFS, best come or i will go to machine mart for one.
bloody nora best shoot late for work now lol.

Unlike Patty I do understand what you are saying but totally agree,with her that you should go for it, you know she'll be right. When you think about it, it's not such a big job so go and crack on my son.

Ok, i have had a day thinking on this and i dont have a clue what i am thinking about having a few worries or concerns about getting it done. Only thing is that it is a big job below the water line and if i mess the job up it will be a disaster. I think i was having a bad day, all i can think of for me to stress over it. I have done so much to it i would need my head feeling to get some body else to do it or.........give up  ...i dont think so. I have done work before bellow water line many times but this is so big but then same but bigger. I have got all the gear now for blasting and look like something out of ET with it all on lol. A box of new dust masks aswell as the one i have has been sat for ages and not worth loosing my lungs for a tenner. I have just cut and tried the tarps so ready to go so i dont P off all the neighbours with a sand storm lol. So the we have it it WILL be done noooo stressss  ..........yet lol Now if i sheath it over i will use Epoxy i think as this is the best for this job, bloody costly. So i will need a woven/CSM matting so the thanks for the offer for more Combo matt Gazza but it is not good for epoxy as it has styrene binder, CSM will be needed also as it can be blended easier than Combo matt. Unless it is the matting that can be used with Poly and Epoxy ? I will see what the hull is like before anything is decided anyway;) I`ll crack on and stop being a soft git  |

T said earlier that this boat has brought out stress in me....i cant see why lol. When i am feeling a stressed moment ahead i sit back and breeeeaaaath and think `ah well never mind` and solve the problem, have a `moment` as i call them and continue and it works for me. At times with a glass of Bow though lol more now Jack D or Vodka......well anything alcoholic Who says alcohol doesnt help |

I think we've done trials with steam cure Vinyl ester resins too. Poly below the waterline is OK too, we didn't have flash vinyls in the early days, ive a strong feeling all the early GRP boats (including ours) were poly - still afloat 50 years on Mix it up, torm it on, go for a brew 🍻👍⚓🚢 |
