I manned up and got on with it in the end. As noted they are easily accessible. Just a matter of one thing carefully after another. No sparks or dramas. I was hoping that among other things it would cure my webasto failing to light problem. No such luck. With reference your webasto, have you checked the fluid level in your expansion tank? If it's not at the right level, the webasto will go through the motions, but not fire up.

It's at the same level as it was and it's a foot or two above the heater. I found a star socket thing but there's one screw it's too bulky to reach. Time for a cuppa.

The glow plug doesn't look healthy, it seems to be cracked. I thought try and remove it without further dismantling, I've found the spring clip under, I know the metal collar stays and the glow plug maybe won't twist as it's square section (googled a pic). Resistance is about 0.7 ohms but from reading up a bit I remember the multimeter has to use a certain amount of amps for a useful reading.

Re the op and the original battery wiring, it's better to have equal lengths to all Terminal posts from a busbar or junction box. Each battery then gets the same input charge and current draw.

I realised I'd have to take it apart more so left the glow plug for a minute. Save the best to last... I think I'll suck it and see with the glow plug after cleaning the gauze. The gasket under the burner is in about 10 pieces. Exhaust assembly paste instead? I hate having to wait for parts.

I'm unsure how hard I can poke at the gauze, I can't judge how thick it is but it's still pretty caked with rock hard clinker. That said this new pile came out of the burner so it's got to be worth slapping back together and giving it a go?

Start using redex in the diesel. Mine never gets that much carbon build up. Bloody hell, that's well clogged. Looks like the glow plug is knackered, or soon will be.

New gasket £5.99 but not until next week. I'm going to leave glow plug, when it did fire up it was quick order first time. I suspect it would fall to pieces if I removed it but if it ain't broke and it's £65-70...

So, exhaust assembly paste or wait 5-6 days. Hmm.

Good tip for bleeding the heater, I was wondering how I'd do that. I expect I could hotwire the pump as I don't trust the bugger to switch off again without a long rundown. I can picture myself trying to stem the flow and failing. 👍

It's back together, I know, I know, exhaust assembly paste is a bit naughty but I've hopefully fixed/serviced it for £0. I hope you're reading Roger. 😁

Still doesn't work, even after I turned the fuel tap back on. Oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained, looks like the glow plug/flame sensor then so I'll have to spend money after all.Just as well really as 2 parts are still on the dining table.
I'll update when I've fitted it, thanks for reading, advice and amusement. 👍
