Surely, compliance with that sign makes having the bog rather pointless, does it not ? But, in an effort to stop stupid people putting wet wipes, sanitary towels, tampons and nappies down Quaysiders prize throne it's probably a good idea. True, but it wouldn't have meant much to the group responsible for one rather memorable bog blocking-up incident on a tripboat I skippered for a couple Summers in Nottingham back in the 1990's. The boat was 'Crusader', operated by the St John Ambulance and providing free river trips/days out for various deserving local organizations. At the end of the trip, as everyone was getting off, I noticed those in charge of the group looking a bit sheepish and in a distinct hurry to get them all into the waiting coach and away as quickly as possible, . . . a sure sign that something on board had been left not quite as it should have been, and a check round inside revealed a completely blocked up bog and a well awash shithouse floor. On dismantling and clearing the blockage we found that the cause was in fact nothing other than toilet paper, . . . most of a whole roll, still rolled up complete with cardboard tube up the middle. We did have to chuckle about the name of the group though, . . Sneinton 'Drop-In' Centre !

Incidentally, St John ran the Mountbatten Crusader out of Beckett's Park in Northampton along the same lines. Sadly all finished and the boat sold off now.

Well perhaps it was just an accident, and the perpetrator couldn’t face putting his(or her) hand in the shit to pull it out, hoping it would all just disappear if they flushed.

Yes, . . an all too common occurrence, I believe, . . nearly full bog rolls taking themselves out of the holder, diving into the pan and then wedging themselves out of sight round the outlet bend.

A couple of sheets of thick toilet paper will do it.

look, I can't sit around here all day going off on tangents... back to me... then again, in the case of washer verses laundrette, I'm glad we've got the washer and dryer on board. The hoover 1600 spin has loads of options - including no heat (just whatever temp the calorifier chucks out) and can be altered from 14mins to nearly 4 hours - 4 hours? luckily, my pants are never THAT Bad!!! The 4kg hotpoint drier works fine chugging along on half power (the drier, not the boat) and it's much nicer than have clothes laying around... AND some days, it gives me an excuse to go for a chug. AS for the oil, that arrives today so I'll do a change and report back - meanwhile, I'm putting up lots of silly pointless signs to comply with "non-private" bss rules ffs. hmmf The most important sign is this one:- www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01N35JBHJ/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_60_1/260-8684419-6892266?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ZJ5V0XMVKV0CJBBR7FYT&dpPl=1&dpID=61UnTKy8-PLSave a lot of bother and repeated explanations! Don't forget one that you can readily make yourself: Danger! This sign has sharp edges. High Risk of Paper Cuts!

I'm stocking up! luckily, there is space on top of the holding tank beneath the bed now that I've gotten rid of the "spare" foam padding .

Never had anything much to do with these 'macerator' gadgets, I'm pleased to say, but an old friend of mine who used to work for a hireboat company reckoned they could frequently be the bane of his life on turn-round days, . . . he generally referred to them as 'turd stranglers'.

I would never have one.

You got the wrong toilet - ours has coped perfectly on a diet of SmartPrice toilet paper - well tested with with two girls onboard
