Great idea, here is a photo of me from 1972. Not quite mastered the beard yet. That's remarkably similar to me at the end of July 1973 !! If there wouldn't have been a couple of months- or maybe a year difference, you could almost have been twin-brothers, weren't it for the fact that you had different mothers. Maybe after some serious questioning of your fathers (if still, possible) you may find out that you're only half brothers. Without this forum you would never have known about this . Peter.

Time takes its toll. (Me 10 minutes ago) (I ran the beard trimmer over my face as I don't have a razor)

I often read that some people would like to put a face on a name. While going through some old photos I found, there's a photo of the guy that used to look at me in the mirror in 1972. I realised that some things don't change much, as that guy is still wearing the same sort of jeans now, only the waist size has changed (a bit) Peter. That's an epic picture, what's the story with the car? I take it you were service crew?

Aftershave ?
I'm getting worried now. I never use any products on my face - I never wash it either unless it happens to get wet when I have my occasional baths.

Its an interesting thing this whole face/name situation. I'm not allowed to post photos of myself due to my sensitive identity but I may be able to find a picture of the person who masquerades as me on a daily basis is there is demand. Police5 photo circa 1989.... Obviously, since turning my back on the criminal fraternity, I've had to have plastic surgery on my face to give the impression of a couple of stone weight gain!! 🙄

At the time in my day to day job, I was running the workshop of the Dutch Lotus importer in Amsterd am, and in the little bit of sparetime I had between the too demanding clients that expected 24 hours service, and my girl-friend, later wife and now longtime ex-wife, I was a spare mechanic for a group 2 Ford Escort BDA that participated in the touring car races, owned by a wealthy spoilt rich peoples kid named esquire Ernst Berg (www.racingsportscars.com/driver/Ernst-Berg-NL.html), once in a 4 hour race at Zandvoort in the Netherlands we had a second driver that was a well known British racingcar driver at the time named Dave Brodie. This car was sponsored by Fabergé, Brut for Men, Kiku, of which a certain Roger Moore was one of the directors. This guy was more of a playboy than a racingcar driver, and thought that it was an honour to work for him, I abandonned him when he was most impolitely ordering my girlfriend, that had nothing to do with him or his playing the big man, to do things for him that he could have done easily himself. A short while later I also gave up being the well paid slave for the Lotus clients, but it has been nice experience anyway, and I always enjoyed our visits to the Lotus factory to collect new cars there.
Peter.

Ah right, I guessed it was a touring car rather than a rally car. I only ever got to see the BDA escorts in historic rallying action, way before my time! That sounds a very interesting time in your life. Colin Chapman dipped his toes in boat building with the Moonraker boats built initially on Aquafibre hulls. It wasn't a total success though, they tried vacuum impregnation with some spectacular failures. I don't think old man Chapman found boats as easy to get on with as sports cars or F1!

I've met Colin Chapman a couple of times at the factory, and the last time was in 1973 at the Formula 1 Grand-Prix at Zandvoort when Emerson Fittipaldi and Ronnie Peterson were the drivers of the Lotus team. My boss also imported the Moonrakers, that he liked to bring over himself from the UK. But as you say, he was much better with his car, and even a real genius at that. Peter.

That's looking rather frightening Jim. What were you saying to all the pretty girls that were trying to date you, was it something like this : Peter.
