I just had a call from a very nice chap from crt to say the business licence for our "live-aboard holiday experience" has been approved to run from 1st April and would I like to pay now or wait until nearer the time? They've been very efficient and helpful in setting us up... couldn't have been easier/less hassle .
I'm paying up now - 1800 quid give or take (less prompt payment) and it will generate a 400 quid refund from the existing license...
SO - we're GOOD to go... all boxes ticked, all legal (insurance is changed over on 1st)...
NOW all we need are some more guests to come along with us... we've got 6 bookings so far. As much I don't really want to advertise, I think a few flyers printed up and pinned up in work-places might get us a few more guests... especially for the 2-3 day trips between Leeds and Wakefield.
Anyway - Just wanted to share with you good folk... .our plans/dreams are finally becoming a reality - I SO wish we'd gotten the boat years ago!!!

Well done...
Get advertising, better to do it and be turning down guests than sitting with no guests, that licence has to pay for itself somehow!

To be honest I didn't get his name but he was very helpful and the email with the paperwork/invoice has come through... why? - Who's Peter Moore?

Have you got one of those pages you just like. And then it brings up whatever you post on their wall thing.

I don't understand - £1800 for a 'business licence'? How are you supposed to recoup that? Seems a lot of money - what do you get in return? I mean, you're using your own boat to show people the waterways, you're not running a prostitute and heroin business in Brussels (favoured by Euro MPs) are you? ssshh.... that's my sideline! it did get the 10% discount though - hence why I've paid it today rather than then "just in case" they change the rules by 1st April...

I've done a post on the other side in the holidays section asking if folk might pass on the web address - who knows... we might actually not have to dip into the vat return
