This last week I have had 4 phone calls claiming to be from BT tech support. Caller is always Indian and always sounds like they are calling from a huge hall full of other Indians all making calls. They have claimed various things like " your phone line has been compromised " "Someone has been using your broadband at another post code " Someone has been using your broad band late at night between 12-00am and 2-00am" That's as far as I've let them go before saying I am a BT executive and demand to know what dept they are calling from. This results in the call being cut off . But I just can't see where the scam is. Phil

no doubt at some point they will either want access to your computer or trick you into revealing personal info.
I string them along. it ca be quite amusing.

I have got to the point where I use one of those 'cat screamer' guns, on audible frequency. Painful enough for me at arm's length behind it, but worth it.

I've never had a land line myself. First mobile I had was 1994 when I moved onto a boat and I've only ever had mobile phones since then. If I don't recognise the number I just don't answer it. Get very little trouble that way

The 'fix' is of course nothing of the sort and is more likely to be a key logger, ransomeware or something else to steal your data.

The thing is it works, it must do else why would they continue.. my mother in law falls for the facebook ones, like and share this page to win a years supply of TCP, click the link to win a years supply of Lavender perfume...
Lots of people have no idea what they are doing on the web, and they pay for it at some point.

If I don't recognise the number I just don't answer it. I find answering like this: "Battersea Dogs' Home, How may I help you?" confuses people. I have had to apologise sometimes, when it's been my boss.

Like what Martin said. Here's an example I found after a quick Goolge............ LINKIt's a phishing or ransomware scam.

If you cast a big enough net, you will usually find some little fishies in it.

I have had to apologise sometimes, when it's been my boss. I have never understood this, my mrs does it, i answer every call, if i dont want to buy or trust them i simply hang up...
