I was just reading an article today that stated ....
*************************************************************************************
'Alcoholism is usually viewed as a binary: Either you're addicted to alcohol or you're not!
Now psychologists are starting to consider the possibility that there are legions of "almost alcoholics" out there who are quietly afflicted but don't know what to do about it. And from the looks of it, this group could include everyone you know '
*************************************************************************************
Which got me thinking about things a little!
Im a self confessed 'binge drinker', regularly drinking to excess on a Friday night / Saturday, never to the point of pissing in my pants like a normal Whetherspoons pisspot, but quite often culminating in me spending time slumped in hedges & fences ( I did actually soil my pants about 7 years ago after an Xmas do whilst slumped on the way home, but thats it. Took 3 washes to clean my jeans thoroughly tho!π±π·)
I never drink when I have work, which is basically Monday -Friday, so Im NOT drinking more than I am drinking, 4 days dry Vs 2 days pissed & a random day of pissed/soberness, I never drink wine/ spirits, only ever pints of premium lager.
Am I a 'Nearly alcoholic', a full blown pisspot or mearly a lightweight, compared with the norm?
How do your drinking habits compare?π»
Remember..denial is the first signπ

I think WE are alcohol dependant by choice - and/or habit.
We'd planned alternate dry days... which is not happening for various social reasons...
WRITING of which, Eddie and Wendy are coming with us today back on to the mainline and we're planning to spend tonight in Burscough before going on towards melling for a day or 2. If you're still free later, I suggested we have a look in the Jack and Gin for a drink and a little tappas after dinner if you have chance to meet up for a beer?

46% Scottish single malts are a good way of burning the fat off your arteries. That's the way I look at it.

You've had me thinking Andy. ...... Probably not ....... I really enjoy the odd ale or two but for many years, my life revolved around either being on call or having to drive,so moderation became a firm habit. Often now, even when I do not have to drive, I still only consume a very modest amount. I also don't think I have a very high capacity for alcohol as after only a couple of pints I can feel the effect. I hate the feeling drunk, even if only slightly, so that also tends to limit my consumption as well. (The last time I had way too much to drink was about 12 years ago in Austria during an impromptu village event complete with oompah band, lederhosen and large quantities of dunkel bier. The rest of the night spent tightly clutching the porcelain to prevent myself sliding away across the rapidly moving floor was a stern reminder, not yet forgotten) It was a grand night though, one of those memories you cherish !!!

I like vino..I do try to have vino free weekdays and just drink couple glasses a night at the weekend(Fri-Sun)..however doesn't always go to plan cos ATM i'm rather anxious and just one glass at night keeps a lid on the hyper worry.....I just want out of here my neighbours latest is raising issue ref sons van in layby(which is mine) says she's struggling to access her front garden and she uses her front door..She actually only uses her front door when she parks in my layby...if he moves it a bit then it may cause problems with accessing drive safely..she also says postie cannot get in so I went to apologise to Mr Postman and find he doesn't mind! Its all so silly, I must be patient and not use alcohol to numb it all... Hopefully someone will want Horror House and that neighbour.......the people who viewed have decided they wont allow their parents to live here..son I think had lightbulb moment as to how much he'd be expected to do to support them ....

I'm a bog standard alcoholic. 10+ units every single day. Only exceptions is if I go over the top and don't fancy it the next day. Commercial lager or cider for me nothing particularly interesting.
I drink alone and rarely visit pubs.
Is this an AA meeting ?

I'm a dormant binge alcoholic. If I have one that's fine. If I have two it invariably turns into ten and as I don't actually like being completely pissed I try and stick to none or one.

I think binary thinking is actually much of the problem. Why does everyone and everything have to be put in a box these days? Nothing is 100% black or white. When people place themselves in a box (e. g Iβm an alcoholic , Iβm not an alcoholic) they place themselves under unnecessary stress which is more likely to feed the addiction. Anyway, a good indicator a to whether someone is becoming dangerously dependent on alcohol, is not eating. Alcoholic drinks have a very high calorie content, so itβs common to see a massive reduction in food intake due to the alcohol fulfilling the energy requirements. Everything in moderation folks...cheers!

as I don't actually like being completely pissed I try and stick to none or one. Wow!!! I had you down as a cronic alcoholic, sat slumped in your own piss every night on cheap fortified wine / white lightening cider, for no other reason than I see you wondering around aimlessly most days but never see you around after 16.00! just shows how the impressions you give out can be misleadingπ

We tend to have drinkies Frid- Sunday & nothing in the week. There are times when we do drink on other weekdays,if we go out for a meal for example. We used to have a drink almost every day when we were out for 4/5 weeks in the summer, now we go away for 3 months or so & realised we'd be sozzled, poor & fatter if we still did this ! π

One drink in the last month, it was a two turns into nine though. I look ill because I am, but it's not alcohol or any other drug related. π I could easily slip into alcoholism if the room didn't spin.

hello my name is Adrian. I can't be an alcoholic because it's no secret I like a drink
I used to drink a vast amount of beer. 2/3 crates a week plus trips to the boozer.
since my run in with the old bill I hardly drink at all.
I used to spend many a night in a bush now it's limited to special occasions
four cans can last me all week nowadays but when I do go out it's normally drink till I fall over over.

As loafer correctly points out........alcoholics go to meetings. I will worry about my drinking on the morning I have a drink for breakfast. I hate getting drunk. It's a horrible feeling, so I strive to avoid it and usually manage without too much effort. Other than that I'm afraid I have a drink if I fancy one, and don't bother if I don't. What I drink varies wildly as there's little I don't like (especially if it's your round) Got to go, need another pint Rog

I hate being drunk and very rarely get to a stage where I can't walk perfectly straight or go out in my rather wobbly kayak safely. But I do like alcohol in my bloodstream.
As someone once said
"Everybody has to believe in something. I believe I will have another beer"
Another one I like is
"Always carry a flagon of whiskey in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
