Sat miserable mulling over wavelength division multiplexing tonight and just wondered what people think is 'mans greatest invention'?
Im torn between....
The wheel, Internal combustion engine Beer
(Silicon implants & interweb porn both vying for a top 3 place!🙄)
Whats the greatest invention then, in your opinion?

The wheel followed by the bronze age, mastering the art of producing metal tools and weapons eventually led us to the heady heights of the industrial revolution.
In modern times the development of standardised screw threads and efficient machine tools - driven in no small part by clock and lock makers requirements in the 1700's is pretty important too.

Being a caveman I personally think wheels have had a negative effect on society.
Imagine how nice it would be if everyone just walked about when going places. Instead everyone is manically racing about on transport systems.
And horses pulling the boats. Must have been a peaceful scene. I sometimes sit by the tidal Thames and wonder about what it would have been like when all the boats were either propelled by tide and oars or some sails.
So peaceful.

Not sure if it counts as an invention, but fire is mine as without it there would be no cooking.
