It's a little sad to see people drinking at 8am, but why the need to judge? A mate of mine used to work nights regularly, 8pm to 8am, and would have a few beers after work much the same as I would enjoy a pint in the evening before bed, he would do the same in the morning before bed. The good thing about Wetherspoons is you can go for tea or coffee, soft drinks, alcoholic drinks or food, and they're all very cheap, you know what you're going to get, and the toilets are usually immaculate. I believe we all go for the same reasons, so unnecessary to 'look down' on other customers. Rog The Peterborough 'spoons is ideal for us to grab a half decent breakfast before getting on the train to see my brother and his family in Norfolkshire. I was a good lad and waited until we were on the train and the sun was well up In the sky (no yard arm on a DMU ) before I cracked a beer open. Full English breakfast and a beer doesn't appeal to me - ergo I don't have a drink problem 👍🍻

Rog This I can understand, but in the days when I regularly used the Dover-Calais ferries I was always slightly surprised at the number of day trippers getting bladdered at eight o'clock in the morning in one of the ship's bars. I always got the impression that it was largely due to "kid in a sweetshop" phenomenon, alcohol not then being available for purchase at that time of day ashore. I'm not looking down on them, and I'm a bit of a beer monster myself but even if I hadn't got the truck to drive when I disembarked, I just don't think I could knock back three or four pints at that time in the morning.

Rog When I worked nights having a drink in the morning was not a problem and sometimes we would head up to Smithfields (market area in London) after our last shift to have a proper drink.
There are some times when I think we should make a judgement. Maybe if someone noticed me drinking alcohol in the early morning for no good reason and asked why, I would have ended up getting help that I needed 10 years earlier. The chances are that the judgement would have focused on alcohol and therefore failed to help, that doesn't stop me looking back and wishing that someone had tried to intervene in my life though.
I believe you made a judgement and helped someone through some locks only to realise you had made a mistake. Everything done for the right reasons and I applaud you for what you did (but don't expext me to keep silent on the matter ).
Sometimes we should judge others, if only to help them. Confusing isn't it...

and looking back you can never know if what you did helped, hindered or just made no difference at all

and looking back you can never know if what you did helped, hindered or just made no difference at all I think just being there probably helped..and does it matter?..if u do what you think is right for the best reasons then in my mind thats ok... I used to work nights but I never felt the need to drink before bed..that'd waste sleeping time...I had to take one son work, the other college and walk dog before I could get to my bed for so few hours before getting up to collect son from college etc
