I've never displayed a licence. The CRT checker checks every week or two and I've stood next to my boat while he does. No problem, no mention od lack of displayed licence, no letters. I expect it depends on whether your local checker is human or a jobsworth.

He appeared to be human when I met him and his woman but having said that I have been to the science museum robot and AI exhibition and its not impossible he is in fact a cybernetic organism. The tech is rapidly advancing. On balance I think not but I would not like to bet my Benetti super yacht on it.

The way I look at it the only people who need to know if I am licensed are CRT. And I look at it like this, that I want to know if you have paid your fair share or are another parasite. What's wrong with that, that I have the satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed to 'the system' like I have by getting up out of bed at 0520 every fucking school day morning and dragging my bones to work so I can earn money to be able to afford a CRT licence, thus contributing to the upkeep of the canals. Not buying a licence is like being a scab in a trades union strike, when workers are asking for sensible conditions and pay. I pay CRT a total of £12,600 a year for the pleasure of their services. Totally agree with you about license evasion but I'm fucked if I'm going to worry about putting a bit of library printed paper in t'window. How very dare you sir . And I have furnished you with the required information to check things out on boats which have index numbers.

Have just been online and taken part in the E.A's online consultation with regard to the proposed registration charge increases. Hope others have also taken part, even if the bastards take none of it on board. All I think it will achieve is to increase the number of unregistered boats, and force leisure boaters to give up, thus reducing the number of boats that can be charged, leading to bigger and bigger increases until there are no boats left.

Until such time as the marina owners get involved, EA just like CRT will eventually kill the inland waterway boating.
