Obnoxious ageist - I never realised how right so many are about you
Twice in one day that nastyfox has been pulled up for being an obnoxious pig... Humbled, I went to a charity shop in Stafford and got the shirt:

Boaters engaged in bona fide navigation can only use the bins that are there, and these are usually in popular places that are accessible to the collection vehicles. There are many examples where there is a 3-4 days cruise between facilities. For instance, travelling from the bottom of Atherstone locks to Great Haywood, without making diversions, there are no convenient disposal points. If you want to go to Penkridge, then Great Haywood isn't the best. There are bins 1/4 mile beyond Atherstone bottom lock. There are bins at Fradley Jn. Yes ok you have to walk 50 yds from the Jn but surely that isn’t too onerous? If you are really complaining that Gt Haywood facilities “isn’t the best” because they are 20 yds beyond the Jn then I think you need to consider whether the boating life is for you. Maybe a house with bins at the door would suit better?

I still think boaters bins should be on boats, accessible by boaters only. It wouldn't be rocket science to sort it and then move them by water where a hiab crane could get them emptied into wagons. This type of bin built into a boat also with a waste oil tank with automatic overflow lid and some sort of arrangement to prevent people evacuating their bilge into it. And sloping areas like they use on freight trains to prevent unauthorised passengers. This would be to prevent people dumping oversized items which should technically be taken to a municipal site or chucked in the hedge. All a nice design project for someone. Some of the bins are a disgrace and it could be so much better. And dedicated to boaters by making it inaccessible from land. I think there is a problem with non-boaters using CRT refuse sites. So anything which makes it less accessible to non-boaters is good. How about adapting old dredgers to become waste collection vessels? You could moor them in places which are just off the tow path but still accessible by boat. The trouble is that now that CRT are pushing for the idea of the canals being for everyone, then it could be argued that the refuse areas should be for anyone who gets ‘well being’ from the cut.. If so, surlely the government should be funding it, not just boaters. We had this issue when we moored on the Broads. The boaters bins were in a sort of shed so the 6 dumpsters were under cover. The shelter was in a big pub car park by the public toilets It was quite common to find a dumpster full of bricks, rubble etc. Or a load of window frames, or furniture that would never fit in a boat The local council were gunning for the Horning Marina along with the local Navigation Ranger. I and a couple of other boaters took them on and once we had shown them a few photos along with a fireplace we got an apology and license to continue using the facilities Phil

Hi Debs! The bins at the Service Station in Penkridge are full. Could you pop round and empty them? Thanks! My missus told me there was something on a FB group about the bins overflowing at Cosgrove. Apparently there was some kind of fete going on and Mr Parry was there. A load of them dragged him there to show him. No idea if it got sorted... Anyone who can't even sit on the arse end of a moored boat for a posed photo without feeling the need to wear an automatic life jacket has to be a bit of a wank puffin.
