Rothens. They do coal.
You should be able to get coal out of the cut with a dredger there. I spent the winter of 1994/95 on the Ashby near stoke Golding and found quite a few lumps of the black stuff in the dredgings they had put on the towpath. Big lumps of real coal.
It was the old type.
Either the boatmen pushed it in deliberately or it was stacked so high on the boats it went over the side.

Thinking we may go up the Ashby later this month. Not taken my wife up there recently. She likes a couple of the pubs along there.

They now do a lot in hire plant for canals, used to have the yard at the top of Atherstone locks some years ago, think that was a coal yard, they now have the old yard between Atherstone and hartshill and load plant onto boats there.

It’s a bit shallow but not to bad in the middle and mooring hot spots, mooring out in the sticks was tricky, struggled to get the stern near the bank on a few places. seem to doing some work at spots that have needed it for a while now so we’ll done crt

If the photo is of you, you're very young.
Shouldn't you be at work or raising kids or something?
My pension is due in 4 years, I wouldn't want you to let me down.

No hard hat, no hi-viz jacket and no safety boots. Twat. The anorak is pretty hi-viz. It's good enough for a fire engine.

Yeah... erm froggy - bout that hopper moored opposite yer toy - we had to retrieve it from its place blocking the whole canal as yer chain had snapped! The front chain had also pretty much pulled away the bolt, the Armco and the concrete block in the bank - prolly due to the angle she ended up at! That horrid knot in yer remaining bit o chain? That was us I’m afraid as there was nowt else around to use to Re secure the beastie with... have fun! Couldn’t dredge our moorings while you’re at it could you 😁

Talking of coal,John Jackson on Roach plus Liam on Southern Cross came breasted up into Gloucester dock yesterday.Today, they came off their finger moorings-then breasted up in the middle of the dock, absolute poetry. No doubt we'll see them on the Sharpness this week.
