Just checked it seems cwdf started up in 2004 same year as facebook. face book started in 2004 but was only for students I think till 2006 and then anyone with an email address could join. so cwdf would of had a 2 year head start on FB, but FB still took a few more years to take off

I wonder what cwdf was like in it's early days. When I joined in 2006 there were some complete know it all twats on there. Sad thing was they were usually wrong. They are long gone and haven't been around for years.

Not even deep enough to paddle in! Please remove the content you added to my quote? It's TB's own software that added it to your quote. Now edited. You'd think that with the invention of the Internet there'd be plenty of 'deep' stuff for you to browse. Sometimes I like to think about what Gravity and Time are, and sometimes I like to think about Who I am. But mostly I wonder what's on the telly and what's for tea.

Things get old, and "Canalworld as a database" doesn't mean much to me. If we have an issue with our boat, we'd like up-to-date info, where to get spare parts and what are their opening times - today, not in August 2012. There's nothing stopping TB's 'database' from expanding, just need more input. But there are 'live' members who answer, usually, very promptly, that's a good start. Have you done your homework on differential aeration corrosion? Is there any point? The bigger question is, when one's boat is in a 'dry' dock (it turns out that these are very wet places), just how do you get the bottom of your boat dry, with dampness rising from the floor all the time, and just how are you supposed to lay in all that muck on your back with a paintbrush with bitumen splattering all over the place and in your eyes?

I meant getting yourself educated as to what causes corrosion - Its a fascinating subject In answer to your question, no, no point whatsoever unless you like wasting money and getting covered in shit

Summer job (1978) at Standard Telecommunication Laboratories in Harlow, Essex - corrosion of metals in various gases. Adjusting flow valves all day long. I got paid, but one of the most boring jobs I've ever had. And no-one took the results seriously anyway. And now STL has gone, all the buildings swept away by bulldozers, all those results and research into the Dustbin of History.
