What is it these days when blokes meet with a handshake that then turn into a man hug? Surely a good firm hand shake is enough as a greeting but some guys seem to do the man hug thing all the time to me, even when I don't know them that well, It's all a bit fake and awkward. It reminds me of the fake, lovey kisses on the cheek that women do to each other!π
You're another bloke, I really don't want to hug you but it's even more awkward when trying to avoid it.
Also see a similar sort of thing when football & rugby players score a goal / try and there all this hugging and gawd knows that else, its just not cricket!
There seems to be a distinct lack of testosterone about these days!
Your thoughts on this man hugging thing?

I have no problem with it, women or men. But then I do inhabit the world of theatre at times, dahling! It's just English reticence. "Reticent" was a common word on my skule reports, it took a lot of work to overcome it to become a teacher and performer. Mwah Mwah and big hugs to you all.

In France it's a quite normal thing for friends male and female to kiss each other, there is of course quite a huge difference between greeting kisses, and love kisses. I've got used to it now, and it doesn't bother me anymore in the way it did when I first arrived here when I thought that it was all rather strange. Of course it's hard to blame them for what they did and are still doing, it's not their fault that they're French. Don't worry Andy, I'll promiss not to kiss you if we ever meet Peter.

Handshake good. Hug not so ... unless it's a lady. But best not to run away shouting chase me, as people get the wrong idea. I think it's from American tv ... well I like to blame them anyway Rog

I think you should only hug people you want to shag.

Oh dear. Tis why I'm reluctant to admit I post on here... ...and by admitting you even know what it is, you are thus incriminated!

Or fisting? Nothing wrong with it, but that unnatural constant squeezing of your hand doesn't half hurt after a while.

I hug my good male friends. Handshakes are my preference for people I donβt know so well. My biker mates all seem to do the other type of handshake, sort of arm in air ish thing. I have taken note of above comments and will be sure not to hug those that dislike it. I may also refuse to shake Nicks hand unless Iβm certain that he has washed it.

My best mate and me always have a wee hug - more so now we see so little of each other. Same applies to my brothers, one more so than the other. It does depend on where your relationship is at, other male friends I'd never consider giving a squeeze - ever! Handshaking isn't all plain sailing either - I hate that ridiculous thumb to thumb handshake - it always happens when all you want is a regular old fashioned handshake - the recipient of your handshake sticks his fucking thumb up just as you are about to grasp their hand in the correct manor fucking the job up entirely. No kisses though. I'm not that cosmopolitan.

I don't even like shaking someone else's hand, how do I know where it's been?
