Spookily enough, on Thursday the first electric chair execution for six years took place in the US (in Tennessee).

Whatever happened to proper English celebrations, Bonfire night and Penny for the guy, proper bangers to make banger guns, playing footy with Catherine wheels and jumping jacks. Never mind this Yankee nonsense. It will be different after Brexit. (that's the only time I will ever say that, and I doubt it's true because the Donald will require us all to dye ourselves orange and eat chicken washed down with bleach and celebrate everything American and build a border in Eire as part of the easiest trade deal ever!)

Halloween or Samhain started on these islands. Yes it has been re-impoted as a american/commercial corporate event that has been hyped up over the last 10years or so. But the centre of it is The Hill of Tara just outside of Dublin. Traditionally it is a time when the vale between the world is thin, so communication with the ancestors is possible.

So, ok, but won't the Irish rightly object to having their tradition stolen by the English. Them paddies can get damned uppity about their traditions.

The culture of these islands would have been very similar at the time. But is definately not an American thing originally, as stated by your self.

I have no problem per se, with Halloween. It was a subsidiary to Bonfire night, we carved lanterns out of good old English swedes. It's the commercial pumpkinisation I am grumbling about.

nice pics. looks like you all had fun. I've seen posts on here about fireworks. well I can't find them now. Our cat loves them, he gets really moody if we close the balcony doors as he loves sitting our there watching.

Oh missed the pic of the aftermath of the electric chair execution. Reminds me of Stephen Kings the green mile. Looked like a fun night.
