Actually I hope the opposite Kris. People seem to view it as purely a move to speed up passenger transit times but it has another function that is often overlooked. It removes a large proportion of passenger traffic from the existing line freeing it up to carry more freight ....... if you are in favour of attempts to get freight off the roads this is important.

I thought the whole point of HS2 was Tony Blair having a go at the Tory road building lobby.
And obviously making it easier for people to get away from Birmingham faster.
Eta I don't know much about rail so probably got it all wrong.
Interesting little snippet from Wikipedia
"In October 2016, Andrew Jones, a transport minister, suggested renaming HS2 as the 'Grand Union Railway', not to be confused with the Grand Junction Railway (today the West Coast Main Line). His reasoning for this was because HS2 is not about speed and is more about connectivity.[130] There is currently no firm proposal for this name and HS2 remains to be called HS2 or High Speed 2."

It's just that ruins at least two spots on the waterways that I really like. Plus the local town where I am now. So I would much rather it stops at Birmingham if it must happen at all.

Especially as it's in the north and there's a history of under funding of projects in the north. But I'm sure if it does reach Birmingham then property values will soar.

I'm not shocked Hs2 is going over budget. I'm a little shocked Kris has a Times subscription

Info in above link. It's the legislation for the Northern part that is (possibly) being delayed. Probably as much to do with parliamentary time/not wanting to be forced into 'rocking the boat' at the wrong time, as much as the cost overrun.

No that's getting delayed as well. The article I posted a link to is the southern section being delayed because the quotes for some infrastructure have come n at £5.6 billion pounds over budget. As I say the telegraph article is the only reference I could find.

Yes, anything that gets these fat, lazy, prostitute-murdering Yorkie-munching slobs off the road gets my vote.

Its strange but true that because HS2 passes very close to her Dads house, he has been given 30K in compensation, and this was only a couple of weeks ago. So I am afraid as this is in Stavely Chesterfield area I think it is going forward
