It's only going to result in more signs going up anyway, cyclist just ignore signs. Some one who gets knocked over needs to sue the body responsible for that particular bit of towpath. Then something might happen.

Hate cyclists on the towpaths in London Sadly they wreck what could be a very pleasant public amenity/open air museum/nice place to be. How such a small minority can be allowed to rule behavior on what is in fact a footpath I don't know. With any luck CRT's attempt to encourage more walking people onto towpaths might make the cyclists journey times longer and they might f off somewhere else. Pigs have been known to fly if you put them in a cannon |

Agreed. Cycling is a great way to get around. Obviously problem is that the inconsiderate cyclists may just not be aware they are arseholes. They may simply view it as normal behaviour. Bit of an awkward nut to crack really. I suspect we are going to be stuck with idiot cyclists for a long long time until a government body (not crt) look at compulsory training and insurance and hi viz waistcoats with registration numbers on them. Until that happens the idiots will rule the roost  |

I underwent compulsory cycle training. My Mum made me do the Cycling Proficiency Test. Still have the certificate.

I did that as well but do not have proof as I have no proof of any of my certificated achievements due to major paperwork problems.
Being fair I think a lot of the blame for the idiot cyclist problem lies with internet based gps routing systems which seem to gather user data and provide estimates for journey time. What might happen here is that the most dedicated "speed freaks" are the ones who contribute to this crowd sourced data and this results in a higher than reasonable estimated average speed. Which pulls other people in which feeds the crowd sourced data. People out for a dawdle on a bike not being a nuisance probably are not that interested in their speed or minimising their journey time.
I expect this applies more in urban areas where there are a lot of commuter cyclists whose sole aim is to minimise journey time.
That and the fact a cyclist in collision with a pedestrian puts the cyclist in the dominant position unlike interacting with road vehicles.
