The last couple of weeks has seen me clocking the thick end of 1000 miles visiting Chris in hospital Start on the A14 which is 3 lanes and then switch to the A11, 2 lanes heading for the M11. I don't have a problem with the lorry drivers but the standard of driving by many car drivers is appalling They will pull out to pass a lorry at 60.5 mph and crawl past FFS don't they realise it's much safer to overtake QUICKLY they never glance in the mirrors at the huge queue behind them. Last week a chap was sitting the centre lane, road empty in front of him, I pulled out to pass him and as I did so he started pulling out into the lane I was already occupying, a long blast on the horn had no effect and I ended up kicking up gravel almost on the barrier. Today I joined the A14 from the A11 merging lane which meant I was in the middle lane alongside a chap who was oblivious of all the traffic joining. He decided to leave the outside lane and started to pull over onto me. Nowhere for myself or any of the others joining to go, again I had to use the horn again (which I hate doing) this persuaded him it was a good idea not to come across onto myself and the other joined. Never mind speed awareness courses some of these drivers need spatial awareness course and in use of mirrors. Rant over

Had the same on the canal yesterday, kindly sent the other boat ahead whilst I stopped and shut the gates for the following boats, as I set off for the swing bridge I could see it was being opened by some helpful other boaters so I gave it a bit of 'welly' to catch up and not inconvenience others as much as possible. 60ft away and the bridge starts closing! Thankfully my horn is louder than the warning signs! ...........
Hope you and the Mrs are doing as best you can.

I've been having a word about this with my MI5 and MI6 colleagues. Obviously we have to keep abreast of any new trends or developments which may be interesting to national security and transportation is key to a stable infrastructure policy. It turns out that what you have experienced is a product illegally fitted to vehicles by manufacturers who are intending to release "driverless cars" onto roads as soon as possible in order to maximise their profits via "MAAS" models. Obviously they would like to make driverless cars look like a good idea. During some sort or brainstorming session someone came up with the idea of "brainless humans". Once it starts you can't stop it

I think the problem is that cars are to safe, in the old days a serious crash had serious consequences! now days much less likely to happen so, people start to feel invincible, and drive so crap that one day it really will happen to them but by then its to late

Airbags are a marketing tool like any other "you ain't gonna die in this car" type device. Simple fact is that anyone who is liable to drive recklessly and cause accidents will drive more recklessly if they feel they are protected by an airbag or other safety device. Thereby putting other drivers at risk. Ordinary safe no-agro type drivers would be safe enough regardless of vehicle safety features. Even ABS is a marketing tool. OK so it could be handy but its a green light for idiots to drive more dangerously.

They do say that cars would be much safer if they all had a six-inch nail sticking out of the steering wheel, pointing at the driver's head.

I travel north on the m1 on occasion and just can't stand it since it has been widened.
Always thick with traffic and it either seems you can stay in lane 1 or 2 and cruise about 50mph or join lane 3 and be forced to go about 90mph - wtf?
No one seems to know what they're doing with lane hoggers in lane 3 not moving over for miles when lanes 1&2 are clear.
Hate it, hate it, hate it! Used to like driving but am generally averse to car journeys now if I can help it.

I disagree that cars are safer these days. The bodies seem to be made of aluminium foil. A thump with a fist will put a dent in any modern car. I've seen lots of cars all crumpled up.
British motorways show the state of the nation's thickness. Luckily, Nature takes care of the bravest morons.
"Driver is more focused on using the horn than slowing down to avoid accident, very poor judgment" "he could have avoided the accident but he wanted the dash cam footage."

Drove up to Langholm on Saturday, first stop after Gretna Green on the A7. M6 north no problems at all, lovely views, pies at Tebay services, enjoyed the drive.

What did he gain in the end ? surely a lot of delay waiting for the police and filling in the accident rapports, his dashcam only shows that he's an a..hole. Peter.

You have become frenchified, Monsieur le Bargemast! Terribly sorry, I suppose that nobody understands now what I was trying to say. I will sign out now (hope I wrote that right) and will stand in a corner for the rest of the night, and be ashamed of myself. Peter.
