Ever since programmes about flying Spitfires in modern times were on ‘telly, I have always wanted to do it. I had a business trip to Illinois and a chap there had a real Spitfire that he had rescued from Africa. I got to sit in the cockpit, but not fly it. Although he did give me a flight in his Chipmunk, which was very nice.
Anyway these days one can cough up big money for a flight in a Spitfire and I have finally decided to blow a chunk of my savings on it. After all, you can’t take it with you. So all booked up for end of March at Biggin Hill. Can’t wait!
Did I mention I was excited?!

Isn't the aileron on the top spitfire deflected in the opposite direction to the way it is banking?
oh - and c'mon, how much?

proper jealous. any chance you could wear a go pro. You’re not allowed to take a camera on board (which is a good thing IMO) but I think there is a video camera running and you get a copy at the end - technological failure permitting.

You might come in use if the engine fails

oh - and c'mon, how much? Yes it is and that is correct because it changes the aerofoil section that has the effect of giving that wing more lift. The other obvious fact from the pic is that these Spitfires are from a Polish squadron.

Isn't the aileron on the top spitfire deflected in the opposite direction to the way it is banking? Looks to me like the aileron is down. When the aileron goes down, it increases the lift and makes the wing go up.

that's what I thought from my paper plane days. Have a good time in the plane I can't do aircraft due to too much embedded trauma. Would-have-been uncle died in a Bristol Beaufighter crash in WW2 and would-have-been grandfather was barbecued in a Cessna light aircraft accident in the 70s. Plus I was shown Rambo First Blood part 2 at school at age 11. That was a bit nasty with the helicopters - it gave me nightmares for years until I watched the film again as an adult and figured it all out.
