Airfix weekend 2019 www.visitlincoln.comooh ooh ooh, will they let me in with a tin of lighter fluid, for refueling and flight testing purposes. Now that always was the best bit. Using the little gel capsule lighter fluid packs as under wing bombs.

Ever since programmes about flying Spitfires in modern times were on ‘telly, I have always wanted to do it. I had a business trip to Illinois and a chap there had a real Spitfire that he had rescued from Africa. I got to sit in the cockpit, but not fly it. Although he did give me a flight in his Chipmunk, which was very nice. Anyway these days one can cough up big money for a flight in a Spitfire and I have finally decided to blow a chunk of my savings on it. After all, you can’t take it with you. So all booked up for end of March at Biggin Hill. Can’t wait! Did I mention I was excited?! Having experienced what you are going to enjoy in March, I can say without doubt, it is an experience you will be thrilled by. I had the basic twenty minute flight, which included a victory roll somewhere over Brands Hatch, and during this time had the controls for about fifteen minutes, though unsurprisingly, not for the roll manoeuvre. With your pilot experience I should think you will be given a certain amount of free reign. If your funds can stretch to the extended experience, I would recommend that, as I can't think of anything better than soaring over the White Cliffs in a Spitfire, but it is double the price. Having said that, I'm going to do it next time I go up. Anyway, enjoy. edited to add.....if you can engineer being the first flight of the day by getting there early, you will have longer in the aircraft than the others, as they spend about ten minutes getting the engine hot before take off, which does not come out of your allotted time. Even sitting at the end of the runway with the Merlin roaring away is pretty awesome.

Just hope the weather is OK!
