I think you'd need a few cold days in a row to cause any damage? We came back from Christmas away about 20 years ago to a house 2/3 wrecked by a burst pipe in the loft. As we drove up we wondered why all the windows were steamed up. Up in the loft it appeared the previous owner had set this up deliberately. It was 150 years old and the roof was slate on battens, no underlay and the wind howled through there. "Someone" had routed the supply to the bathroom in plastic pipe fixed to the roof joists next to the slates. In the middle they'd inserted 12" of copper pipe for no logical reason. This was the pipe that split and sprayed mains pressure water in a fountain right across the loft space. What's the betting they had also weakened the pipe in the right place for maximum effect? Lots of plastering, new ceilings, rewire, decorate, floor sanding and varnishing. The ceilings were in some places 2-3" thick plaster where they'd been repaired over and again. Someone had a cunning plan methinks and we benefitted in the long run by the insurance paying for our rennovation though of course it was stressfull at the time for about 3 months.
It was a well thought out plan, the damage wrecked all the typically expensive rooms, the kitchen, bathroom, main living room, master bedroom, hall and galleried landing.

Beautiful sunny morning.
So lovely, Jane's decided we should find a canal and go for a stroll.
We shall see.

Well that’s annoying, yesterday early morning (middle of the night) I came down with a nasty bug, lots of stuff coming out both ends, and running a temperature. Slept most of the day. And slept all last night (I was worried I wouldn’t, because I’d slept all day). But much better this morning - temperature normal and having not eaten anything for 24hrs I tucked into bacon and eggs. But the particularly annoying bit is that, with me still a bit weak and watery, we’ve decided not to do the 38 locks up into Birmingham for Strictly. So staying in the marina for the time being, Strictly by car. Which is a pity, because it looks a lovely day from the comfort of my fireside chair!

Look after yourself ... can't be too careful at your age Rog True. Anyway, just about to totter off to Ventura on foot. If I survive that I’ll declare myself fit.

True. Anyway, just about to totter off to Ventura on foot. If I survive that I’ll declare myself fit. yes but fit for what is the question? Well not fit for 38 locks as I was feeling pretty knackered when we got back (only about a mile each way) but probably fit enough for a G&T tonight.

We have cut right down on our booze consumption this month, but I'm more of a "moderation" person. Total abstinence tends to result in binging once the booze famine is over, which is bad.

Didn't happen after dry October ... but we were home and working. If we get into 'binge mode' in February I'll let you know ... if I can see the keys Rog

Had a pleasant walk at Stanley Ferry down to the river lock and back to the pub for coffee and a sandwich.
Always good to go boat spotting.
