Glorious sunshine and gentle breeze all day yesterday. Walked cliff path and viewed seals sunning themselves...

Fire's lit again today.
We're off to the Ring o'Bells to dine later with some friends. It was jolly good last time we were up this way.
Spoke with one of the contractors at Marple locks (a well spoken Polish chap) who said the locks will be open Friday, and that they're actually ready to open now, but they're just running water through to make sure all is well and that levels are correct.
On the way up here, another boater told me 'he'd heard from C&RT' that there was a two and a half day queue to get through once the locks opened, so C&RT were putting staff on over the weekend.
If that rumour is true, there's certainly no evidence of an excess of queueing boats at Marple. The contractor wasn't aware of it being the case either.

No fire here. I was born in Kent and we're made of tougher stuff than those soft, limp-wristed, mincing Yorkshire jessies. Did a bit more work on the boat this morning. Got so fed up with the rug creeping along the floor carpet that I nailed it down. Then moved the boat about half a mile. Went to Costcutter (Mr Stabby's First Rule of Shop Naming states "any shop, the name of which implies that it is cheap, is expensive") and found something that fitted perfectly into the basket. Will probably move again tomorrow but won't go very far, have to be in Parbold next Monday and will just do enough to keep off the CRT radar.

I must be having hot flushes as i thought it quite warm today. We spoke with a chap last week in Marple who told me same thing. Not sure where all the boats are hiding then.

Could we not start a Crowdfunding page to get Stabby some decent beer? I am constantly surprised by how many new beers there are from tiny independent breweries, and they are usually very good! Like these: Kinver Brewery Stroud Brewery

Could we not start a Crowdfunding page to get Stabby some decent beer? Stroud Brewery There is no finer beer than Special Brew... "It was first brewed in honour of Winston Churchill. Carlsberg says Special Brew was first brewed to commemorate Churchill's 1950 visit to Copenhagen, incorporating "cognac flavours among its tasting notes" in deference to the wartime prime minister's fondness for brandy. The novelist Kingsley Amis was also a fan, mixing it half-and-half with regular Carlsberg pilsner and praising its ability "to create goodwill". So if it was good enough for Winston Churchill and good enough for Kingsley Amis then it's good enough for Mr Stabby and I'll leave the 4.5% ABV piss to the beardy lefty hipsters who don't have to take into account how often the toilet needs emptying.

Yes ianali, that would have been our friend Pat on Jumelous. They're heading back to Heritage and then home as she's having a replacement knee done next week (brave lady, had first done last year). We're up in Bugsworth now. Managed a walk into Whaley and picked up loads of books in the various charity shops, then Tesco on the way back. Knee held up well too We let the fire out last night ... had to before we melted. Rog
