MLC. Middle Level Commissioners.
They got an Act last year so have they got their Act together and started taking money off boaters?

The Act provides for the ability to pass byelaws demanding boat registration; the consultation on those byelaws has yet to be published, although certain organisations have been given privileged pre-peeks for comment first.

Have licenses been introduced on the Levels yet? Phil Licences will not be introduced; they are inapplicable where public rights of navigation have been maintained (to reinforce what some may see as TD's relentless pedanticism on the subject). The 2018 Act does not purport to abolish the PRN, so what is envisaged is (as with BW's 1971 Act) boat registration.

Is there any oversight in the byelaws or are they free to make any as they see fit, hopefully within current laws.

There WILL be oversight of a sort, in that the proposed set of byelaws will go out for public consultation, and if any of the undertakings respecting these given during the Select Committee proceedings are violated, then the MLC could be brought to book before Parliament.

Hope peeps do not mind me jumping onto this thread, but we are leaving the Great Ouse for the canals this year. That means crossing the Middle Level but to do that we have to go through Denver/Stanground locks on the tideway - something I have never tried before. Is it as dodgy as it looks (to me)?
Thanks

That means crossing the Middle Level but to do that we have to go through Denver/Stanground locks on the tideway - something I have never tried before. Is it as dodgy as it looks (to me)? Thanks Itβs not dodgy at all, we transit between the Nene and Ouse every year. 0.7 mile that if you time it right can be as easy as boating on a duck pond. The easiest transit is at HW neaps, you will glide in a piece of cake π°π You wonβt be let across from the Ouse on a Spring Flood as headroom becomes an issue near the top of the tide. Obviously you need to bear in mind lock operating hours and tide times. we are across around 5-6pm on the 16th April, next locking is around 08:00 am 17th April moving forwards with each days tide. Best bet is to call Paul at Salters Lode (zero1366 382292) and discuss your plans and worries - heβs been a lock keeper there for 25+ years so knows a thing or two about getting boats on and off the Middle Levels π Have you any dates in mind? E L T O N lock is shut until 10 April meaning you will have to stay down the bottom end of the Nene until that is finished at least

Thanks Gazza. Not planning to move until early June - got a couple of jobs to kill off first and a holiday :-) Looking forward to going up the Nene again - we moored at Oundle for a while (long time ago) when we lived in Glapthorn, a village just outside the town. But it's back to Crick for us this time - subject to securing a mooring.

Is that Crick or Oundle, Gazza? Both! Oundle - we are regular visitors to both the Marina, The cruising club and the town - we live 10 miles or so up the road, boat is a few miles up river at MNCC. I've been going to Oundle marina since I was a kid one way or another - spend a fair bit of time there these days as it's a nice cruise from MNCC and Barnwell park is ace for the Dwarf. I know Crick well enough too - good Motocross track there as well as the canal π
