The Wharf Inn. Fenny Compton
The Globe Inn, Linslade
The Great Western, Aynho
There are many good pubs to be found by walking a short distance from the water and they are often cheaper.
Iβve seen so many shut down over the years so I like to support them where I can!

Anchor Inn, High Offley
Went this site for one day, last minute, and so glad we did, if you like clinical, clean, lots of amenities, you will not like this place, if you want a unique experience you will,
Toilets are an experience on their own, lots of swallows sitting above you, plus spiders and I would say lots of other ' visitors',
Field we were on had a great view over fields, the pub adjoining is like no other we have been in, very very small, only two rooms, bar room all tables face each other, with a boat shaped bar, so if you don't like chatting to local boat enthusiasts, don't go, if you are lucky you will be serenaded to the early hours by the local musicians, superb beer, only one on draught which is wadworth 6x, wines, spirits in bottles, and westons vintage cider plus others, one barmaid, has been for over 50 years, a lovely lady called Olive, in her 80s, so don't rush her ! mind you, you wouldn't be able to haha, tops up your beer with a jug, at busy times you will need to be patient !but her daughter helps out at busy times.
Very nice beer garden with hanging baskets, next to the canal for nicer days,
All in all a 10/10 for us

We always liked the Greyhound at Sutton stop. They were very kind to our dog when he fell in just outside.
And the Globe on the Ashby.

Must have been a "off" day when we passed through in 2015, pity as I had been looking forward to having a beer or two there.....maybe next time as we quite enjoyed the 4 Counties ring

Riverside pub they didn't mention which, although expensive and a bit of a tourist magnet, is worth a visit if you are on the Deben The Butt and Oyster at Pin Mill 004 by mudlarker2, on Flickr That reminds me I wonder if waldamar still looks in here been away for awhile - but still kicking................... btw, Orwell, not Deben..............

I bought Shapfell in Sawley then moved it to Shardlow to get it out of the water for some of the jobs + painting. I then spent just over a year in the area (spending a lot of time on the boat cruising locally)
I got to know Shardlow quite well and I have to say it was extremely well supplied with some excellent watering holes. Ones I particularly remember
The Old Crown, good beer, good food (when I was there a lot of homegrown goodies and their own eggs) notable for the incredible collection of jugs hanging from the ceiling. It's in Cavendish bridge and a fair walk from the canal.
The Navigation, doesn't look too smart from the outside but homely inside and the food used to be superb (but I understand the chef moved on from there) also decent ales including a good dark mild.
The Malt shovel, always seemed busy mostly with youngsters hence never tried i, there was also another one almost next door to it but I can't remember it, but it was ok and so was the beer.
The Clock House, handy because you can moor right outside in the basin by the little museum. Big and like a chain food pub OK but thats all.
Further along the road in the direction of Derby there were two more pubs the Shakespeare and the Dog and Duck both ok.
There is also a bar in the Marina that is not bad but the real attraction there is the Sunday Carvery absolutely excellent value for money and I would rate it about the best I have had anywhere
On Sunday dinner, an excellent waterside pub is the Blacksmiths Arms in Naburn.
It's quite a walk from Naburn Lock to the village but if you have a dinghy, only a few minutes and you can tie up at the sailing club slip (only room for dinghies). Good beer and superb Sunday roast but you MUST book. It's so popular that they have two (or sometimes even three) sittings !!!

Just off for a meal at the Rising Sun at Scholar Green on the Maccy. Been in the past and it was great, so fingers crossed. Sure it will be good Rog I haven't been myself but have spoken to several who have, all recommended it, so should be good. I'll be in Scholar Green myself next week. Are you heading north or south? p.s. had a few beers in Congleton town on Saturday. Rather nice brew made locally 'Bearwood Brewery'. Light coloured and light to the taste but quite bitter, reasonable strength at 4.5% and not badly priced at Β£3.30 a pint. Recommended, if that type of beer is to your taste.
