As irritating as some posts are, and as excruciatingly embarrassing some peoples views can be, the price we pay for a free, unmoderated forum is that everyone can post as they wish.
I understand your discomfort, and empathise.
Hope you're not away too long ... and that the brownies, sunday luch, and half marathon were all successful.

Thats a shame Gazza. You input is very valuable here, it will be a weaker forum without you.
Like you say, please do keep your hand in.
Cheers mate. Oh and keep the dwarf updates coming.

A double edged sword. Congratulations to all the members of Thunderboat who have contributed over the last 3 years - it's fair to say a unique and useful community has developed out of a shaky beginning. For my part I've enjoyed the last 3 years - up untill the last few weeks if I'm being honest. TB hit a big low with me yesterday - so, with that in mind I am going to ease off a bit - I can't have one member who I consider a complete moron and another who I consider a friend ruining my enjoyment of TB (along with one or two others it must be said) - the constant xenophobic, racist, bigoted homophobic posts are for me really dragging the forum down. I'll still join in now and again, particularly with cruise reports and mooring updates - but, like loafer and many before me it's probably the right time for me to have a rest from TB for a while. Happy and safe boating everyone π»π

Happy and safe boating everyone π»π You couldn't be further from the truth Vince - posting as much crap as I do it's hard to drop off the scene quietly! Last time I had to ease up was due to pressures of work, several members who are friends messaged me outside the forum to check everything was ok. This time you all know the reasons why! I hope the forum continues growing and doesn't get legged up by the narrow-minded outlook of a very few. All the best my Yorkie munching prostitute murdering, super strength lager swilling friend ππ»

That's very kind of you - I shall print it off and put it with my 200m swimming certificate and cycling proficiency award. Not having my views shared isn't the issue - TB turning into EDL lite is. When the fun stops, stop. Seems reasonable enough to me! Right, off to put the dwarf through the sheep dip. Catch you all later.

I can understand why you want to get away from the unpleasant ranting thats plagued the forum recently. I do not like it but rather than cut myself off from here Ive decided to just skim the posts and not respond. I am hoping that they'll realise that to harp on in this manner lowers the tone of what is becoming a vibrant community.

Heartily agree with Patty, we really are better than we have been the last few weeks. Is it just me or in fact has Brexit impacted on TB?

There are still enough good light hearted posters to carry the good ship TB forward....

There are still enough good light hearted posters to carry the good ship TB forward.... There are Brexit related threads and non-Brexit threads, there is a choice. I agree that some lighthearted topics get sidetracked (who first mentioned Brexit on this thread for example). Itβs possible to be light hearted and still take an interest in current affairs. Iβm glad Thunderboat has lasted 3 years with little moderation, maybe thatβs because most of us self moderate and know when weβve crossed the line.

Yes that would be me but it wasn't my intention to sidetrack the topic and take the thread off topic, it was just that I was more than a bit peeved that the B word was apparently behind or at the root of Gazza feeling he needed a break from TB. It seems that self moderation works for most of us but sadly not for a few. But we have to accept that self moderation is really good but does fail on occasion Phil

Or perhaps you would care to justify your nastiness. Better though, when you are in a hole, stop digging.

The trouble is Jim that if you stifle those who have extreme views on both sides, the middle starts to drift! Surely itβs better to respond to extreme views with constructive counter arguments rather than just shout them down. That way we might all learn something rather than stay stuck in a polarised bubble. Gazza is a good bloke and Iβm still hoping to meet up with him later this year.
