I've met Andrew and like him. So what, that He sometimes plays the devil's advocate. That is a good thing, as it can make you inspect your own views and conclusions to make sure you are on the right track.
I like to try and understand the opposite viewpoint. The way humans often make their decisions can be flawed. Research has shown that often people make their decision then look for evidence to support that decision. The opposite way that logic would suggest.
Knowing the opposite view and arguments helps you
a) refute them
b) check your arguments for inconsistencies
Differing views and attitudes are what make this forum vibrant but what is also essential is the ability to agree to disagree

Not quite sure what you are referring to by "second hand shit". If its directed at me then maybe you could give me some references for that. I'm intrigued now but that's only because my self centred nature makes me think you might have been referring to me. I'm almost sure you were not as I do not in fact post "second hand shit" on forums. Sorry, got you mixed up with Foxy for a minute there. I don't post "second hand shit" only quality stuff.

That reminds me of a joke a comedian on the cabaret circuit used to tell "Britain is truly the land of opportunity, my father arrived in Tilbury from Jamaica with only five pounds in his pocket, and he built up a thriving business ..... mind you it was five pounds of seriously good shit"

One of the things I’ve heard they do at some schools is to get you to debate the opposite view to what you really believe. That makes you think about the other side of an argument even more. I’m sure that’s why many politicians are good at lying!

And as for the K&A lock being deliberately narrowed: "In the defence of CRT, it was only one C&RT employee on the ground that was unfriendly/unhelpful - the local staff were great. Whoever wrote the notice might have fed by the less friendly person wielding the tape measure (Who shall remain nameless for now). Glad I never saw the notice at the time though, I might have struggled to stay calm." I'd say name that less friendly person. Blaming the boater/boat which has passed through a lock many times before CRT had it narrowed is just not on, especially when they have no legal right to alter the width of the lock. www.canalworld.net/forums/index.php?/topic/101092-what-how/page/10/ "the situation is not that the vessel is now unsuitable for the waterway, but that the waterway has now unlawfully been made unsuitable for a vessel of a size that had been suitable for the waterway as maintained prior to reclassification." (Nigel Moore)

Clitheroe's Lock, Brentford - (Picture of the boat being raised, from the RCR Facebook page) Clit heroes lock (giggle) The water is terrible there I think it must be where Chris Rea got his "standing by a river" bit from in Road to Hell.

I've met Andrew and like him. So what, that He sometimes plays the devil's advocate. No, he makes up fictitious crap and attempts to pass it off as real, whilst derailing and undermining the issue. Whether you met him or not is irrelevant.

Deleted as its pointless to engage. Edit to add I really thought everyone reading would have worked out the MI5/6/7 thing was a joke. If anyone took it seriously please accept my apologies and condolences. You quoted me and i couldent find it. Must be here. I'll agree with JohnV that you play devils advocate and keep doing it.

I'm now very capable of having a debate even if I agree with the other side.

I once got made to stand in the corridor as I was too passionate. I quite fancied my French teacher Mrs Tate when I was 15 but it never got that far !!
