No, it doesn't. You could go to Screwfix instead. Which is owned by....B&Q....aaaaaaarrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!!! Well, that's pretty disappointing. How come Screwfix can get it right when B&Q isn't even close? I love Screwfix. I used to love Screwfix until I attempted to buy some wood screws...do u know how many trillions of different sorts there are? Jeepers.... I gave up and returned B and Q

I would hesitate to say anything simply out of fear that the person would then verbally abuse me...I've had enough of that to last a lifetime. Plus I'm no hulky handbag wielding individual . Im only just over 5'. If Jeff, who does come across in your posts as reasonable didn't criticise your actions then thats OK. As none of us there really I don't think we can for certs say what we would have done. Whilst I completely understand why you would not have intervened I can say that I would have. The guy needed to be asked to calm down. In fact child or no child I would always, and have in the past, ask someone to stop swearing etc in such situations. To many people ignore bad behaviour, this can only lead to some people believing that it’s ok to carry on acting like an idiot. Obviously though you need to consider your own safety first. I tell my wife it’s best not to get involved, doesn’t always work though☹️. I see your point but first rule always has to be 'Is it safe?' I'll help with first aid emergencies and little ole ladies who need their bags carrying or stuff putting in their cars but I will not confront bullies. I'll leave that to macho muscle men who bullies would thing twice about throwing their rattles out of prams too. My eldest son always deflates aggressive situations very calmly..but thats his way.

not totally on topic but relevant none the less, today I encountered "mr angry" at having to wait at the water point behind us and the boat waiting for us in Nantich...
When we got to the only tap here, there were two boats breasted up AND another on on the service point waiting for them to Finnish filling... we pulled along (opposite side) and waited for a gap to move in...
about an hour later, all 3 boats had filled and gone so we moved across and began to fill up... at which point a boat pulled in behind and asked "will you be long" - I said as long as it takes to fill the water tank... "how big is it?"... 500 litres - ish I replied... "500 litres?" - "why so big... ours is 300 and last us ages"... " cause we're a hotel and guests get through a lot of water"... "bloody hotel boats..."
THEN another boat came along oppiste... holding his centre line and shouted across would we be long cause he wants water... - the other boat the interfered and shouted back "they'll be ages cause they've got a 500 - GALLON tank" as they're a hotel boat... at which point "mr angry" on the other boat started to fizz "they shouldn't be allowed to use "our taps" they should get water elsewhere ...
ffs - at which point i had to explain to BOTH of them that as we pay at least twice their licence fee to operate AND bigger insurance premiums they could both whistle... I had half mind to wash the boat down too.. however, that wouldn't have been cricket so once full we pulled off thinking what incredibly rude people they were...
It seems boaters "think" hotel boats are a nuisance and should not be allowed.
Thats nice isn't it?

We had a friend who owned and worked a hotel pair (he's sold up, but the boat and butty are still working). He used to regale us with tales of how horrible and rude boaters constantly were to him and his crew over lock and water point usage. We met them at Glascote locks one summer when there was a queue (as usual). He was being harrangued by many in the queue because he would take two places, which was so unfair. Jane went and worked him down and told the whingers if they did the same the queue would go much quicker. Amazing how many people want business back on the canals, but then complain if the business is in front of them. Don't allow people like that to sour a perfectly good day Rog

We’re never in a rush so no problem with hotel boats.
However if they are towing a butty on narrow canals, any queue never disperses as they have to run the butty through the lock each time before moving off to the next lock.
So I can understand why impatient boaters might get annoyed.
Whenever I see a boat navigating or using utilities, I’m just glad we are reducing CRT’s excuse to close parts of the system down.

It seems boaters "think" hotel boats are a nuisance and should not be allowed. Thats nice isn't it? twunts Single hotel boat surely can’t be a nuisance. Sometimes a hotel boat pair can be - for example we came up behind a pair in Stone and not only were there obvious issues with getting 2 boats through a narrow lock, but also the crew really didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Net result was a delay of at least an hour. Fortunately they winded shortly after.

Because we will be going through the densely populated Midlands this Summer, my thoughts are to do early morning and late evening runs. We get to see sunrises and sunsets, and the canala are empty of the lemmings who leave all together at 9am and tie up at 4pm. There's no hurry to stop for the night at 4pm - if we stop at 10pm well, our bed is just there, all we have to do is flop into it and set the alarm for 4am. We can have afternoon snoozes 2-4pm.

THIS weeks guest are ex boaters (retired due to ill health) and it's going really well... relaxed, friendly and not expecting things to be the samme as one land...wait a minute... I COULD just have said "they're boaty peope".... that'd done it

I think a common problem with water points is that their positioning isn't very well thought out. Ideally they should be placed on longish open stretches of towpath. Then, those arriving can chill out, have a cuppa or something while they wait. The reality is that very often in tight places with very little or no mooring close by. This can result in breasting up, mooring on private moorings, 'holding' in the middle of the cut using the engine, blocking a bridge hole, all kinds of shenanigans, that can lead to folk becoming stressed.
I blame CRT.

Good point. I guess they were originally installed in a lot of cases when usage was much lower ie weekenders and camping boats etc. The move to luxury floating apartments is obviously going to alter the way boaters consume water.
There is an argument for upgrading and charging for fresh water distribution.
