I used to like the mooring at Nether lock, great place for train spotting.

3:25 Torksey to Cromwell for us. We left slightly early to give space to a flotilla of arriving boats, which was probably a good thing.

And now tied up in Newark against a wall where all the drunks hang out (may be!?).
Oh forgot to mention, we had quite a good meal in the White Swan (Torksey) last night. She was apologetic because there was only one pie left and it was a small one. Which was a blessing, because otherwise I might have chosen a large one. But the small one was quite adequate and packed with meat - very tasty! Jeff had a steak which was pretty good too.

Terrible night last night. Got attacked by IanAli (Ian and Ali) and he held us down whilst she poured beer and gin down us using a funnel! It was awful!
Ok maybe I’m mis-remembering due to alcohol poisoning and actually we had a great night with Ian and Ali sitting outside at the Castle Barge (Newark). Very enjoyable and thanks for the good company!
I did miss my dinner though!

Took a walk around Newark this morning. I must say it is one of the nicest towns to visit by water.
Where we were moored there are some benches where daytime boozers tend to hang out, although they were absolutely no trouble. As we were leaving some PCSOs came along, at which point the morning boozers scarpered. PCSOs asked if we had had any trouble last night - we hadn’t. They explained that they were trying to make the moorings more appealing to boaters to encourage them to stop (and spend money in the town). Which makes a nice change from the “NO MOORING” (f-off) one so often sees in urban canalside locations.

We are enjoying being moored in Newark, as Nick said, a smashing place to stop at. Our daughter is coming to stay for the weekend so will have a night out with her here. After that we are cruising towards Nottingham. May try and catch up with Nick again. He and Jeff make great drinking companions. Ali said she wouldn’t be surprised if it had been them, sat on the waterside benches, drinking the day away!

It really does provide decent food at a good price, B the way I have always chosen the large one, which is why I am on a constant diet!!!!

Watch out for the little plastic mushroom boats when you get to Nottingham, they seem to have bloomed recently. Remember to wave when you pass by my boat.
