I live off profits from property. Zero positive impact on the economy, little or no travel required. Therefore, less damaging to the environment than just about any job anyone could mention. Well, it's a bit of a conundrum really. On the face of it my job is damaging to the environment. But if I deliver 26 tonnes of Highland Spring water to a Tesco RDC, am I responsible for the environmental damage? I'd say as I only ever drink tap water then the answer would be no, it's the punters that buy the stuff who are. And I'd also speculate that at these conferences Greta lectures at, they drink exclusively bottled water.

We dont need any more cars of whatever technology, come to mention it with out the need to generate profit for the 1%. We could stop producing alot of things tmw. Which would cut emissions. You might not Kris but people have to go to work, the real solution is a smaller population but that wont happen in my lifetime People managed perfectly well until Thatcher/Tebbit decided people should commute to work in order to propagate an increase in house prices. Now for example where I used to live in Ely, thousands of people commute to work in Cambridge because they can't afford to live there, thousands of people who live in Cambridge commute to London because they can't afford to live there. Further out people on Littleport commute to Ely because...guess what? and people in Black Fen Drove commute to Littleport for the same reason. People simply can't afford to live where the work is (or put another way jobs don't pay enough) and this is why all our roads are clogged and we're burning enormous amounts of fuel unnecessarily. The situation is doubled by all those families with two cars for two commuting bread winners. Me, I wangled being able to live in Ely and work for Cambridge, London and Winchester based firms by starting my own company and working in a summerhouse in the garden. I can't claim I did it for green reasons, I just hated commuting and hated the fluorescent lighted office and it's politics, but I saved incalculable lost hours, petrol, worn out cars and pollution over 20 years by mistake. I recognise most people seem to think someone else should provide them with work and a pension so it's not for everybody. BTW my only car is 45 years old and I have been on 2 short return flights in my entire 60 year life, one of which I was forced into by a customer who paid for it and a hire car each end. I don't feel too guilty.

AND we don't buy plastic shite, we walk the 6 mile round trip to Tesco even in the rain, don't drink bottled water and live on less than £10K/year including running the old car, mooring, insurances, licences etc etc. I don't like to bang on, but if more people lived like me we wouldn't be in such a mess.

I live off profits from property. Zero positive impact on the economy, little or no travel required. 1. The people from whose money you benefit have to get their money from somewhere, and you are just part of that equation. Those profits don't come out of thin air. They may have to drive a car or catch a bus to go to work to keep you in your silk underwear. 2. You have to move every 14 days

Sorry, I hope you don't mind, I thought you were quite proud of your frittering lifestyle? Yes. Its OK. I want my kids to have their own life rather than bullshit family money. So I will dispose of it. I filled my daughter's new car with petrol on Saturday, £70 of 98 octane. She's now 27 years old. I wonder if you will be supporting your kids financially when they are 27.... ! If she doesn't burn it, someone else will. It's dog-eat-dog in the human society.

but if more people lived like me we wouldn't be in such a mess. If I didn't carry on as I do... what then? Quitting my job means 3 months 'quarantine' - no unemployment benefit at all, as a punishment. And I am expected to go to any job within a 150-mile radius if one presents itself, even if I don't have a car and there's no public transport! We could help to 'save the planet' by not having holidays in the UK, but why should we? If Meghan and Harry can travel here & there and have people swooning over it, we'll do the same. Selfish? Probably. But if we killed ourselves to stop ingesting the valuable oxygen of the atmosphere and to cut our 'carbon footprint' no-one would care. I rather fancy a 'carbon neutral' cruise across the Atlantic but I doubt Greta's rich friends would lend their yacht to us. If I quit my job, someone else would just step into my shoes and do it. How far should one bend over to 'protect the environment'? I do point out terrible waste - all those plastic packages that food comes in. One solution is huge canteens in which the entire village goes to eat breakfast, lunch and evening meals - that would save a lot of packaging and energy with cooking.

I knew that.
Sadly they've now taken down Didcot so we have moved further out into West Oxfordshire. Didcot was fun.
