Did you get the skeg on the cill? Eta obviously not as going uphill. So what happened to screw the rudder up? Boat shoved back against the gates I guess. Normally the rear fender would protect the rudder in this situation. The boat went back too fast and the rudder moved to the "straight" position and alas, it DOES stick out further than the fender... not a problem when I am on the boat and someone else is working the lock but alas, when I'm on the lockside winding (when the crew isn't up to it) i misjudged how close it was when trying to grab the line to pull it forward and bang - the damage was done. SO annoyed... just carelessness on my part ... thank goodness only 1 more set of guests after this one AND I've got crew joining me for the last week back from Nelson to Shipley - after that, I'm heading back to Leeds solo (might try for help with some swing bridges as REALLY hate them solo, and then back to Wakefield for Winter plugged in at Stanely Ferry (hopefully) Hope all your probs resolve soon.. Keep smiling I'm just back from one of my zippy trips up north to sort out my old friend...tracked down his mislaid money and found an old pocket watch that'd been missing some 10 years or so... Going back up in 4 weeks to ensure all ok pre my away.

When might you need help with swing bridges? From 29th at Shipley down to Leeds by 31st - there is a young lad in Apparently bridge marina who has intimated he'll help out (for 8 quid an hour)... MIGHT have to "speed boat" my way through lol ... annoying thing is, that IF it's not windy, I CAN do them solo - but when the wind is being (typical) they make me cry in a heap... you just can't hold the boat on a rope and pull it through, then close the bridge before it ends up in a tree or wedged sideways... I could help you on the 30th. All day. My only issue would be getting back to my car to where I will have to leave it.?

Talking of fisting, I'm not keen to be honest. Imagine one of those handshakes off someone who tries to show their 'authority' by being overly firm, and that going on for much longer than you'd like. Have to show courage in these matters though.

Thank you - it would be a pain as in order to meet the "down stream" times, I've got to be close to Newley for 8am... and as Rodley hasn't got a station, you'd struggle getting back to Saltaire to collect your car. I think I'm just going to suck it up as the Canadians would say and try to get to Apperley bridge on by bedtime on 29th (or as close as I can) and then spend 30th, plodding on to Newley and risk a night near the bridge before the locked, locks - after 31st, its 72 hours notice and booking required so I want to be back in Leeds by then.

Have a charity coming this morning to inspect our old lounge suite. If deemed saleable they will take it away with them. Hoping they will. Otherwise, il have to take an axe and saw to it, would be a shame as it’s still ok and pretty comfy. Hadn’t realised how hard it would be to give stuff away. This is the last job at home this year, back aboard then for a lovely few weeks of autumn cruising.

This is the last job at home this year, back aboard then for a lovely few weeks of autumn cruising. The stuff I had to take to the tip cut up really surprised me..I offered it free but no-one wants it What I did if I could was take to Tip Shop where they sold it for few quid...trouble is the bigger stuff u have to cut up It really is a throw away society. Daughter trying to get me to replace cooker...the only thing wrong as I see it is a worn seal which I think I can sort if I want to..don't really cook so see no point.. As for charity collecting..they'd only do it if I got it downstairs which I just couldn't manage solo. That irritated me tbh. I did manage to give away a day bed..the guy came and dismantled it, on his last trip he gave me a copper warming pan for my wall in exchange. It was nice of him but I'm trying to get rid not collect stuff.

Oh well, can at least recycle the wood content.

After Jane's Mum died we had to 'tip' her soft furnishings ... the fire retardant labels had been removed so charities wouldn't take them.
It's difficult not to throw away at times.

It's difficult not to throw away at times. Rog When we donated our last suite to the local hospice charity furniture shop earlier this year it was the first thing they asked 'are the fire labels still attached'. In our case they were still on. I'm guessing they are legally not allowed to sell them without. When the guys came to collect they double checked they were actually in place as well as checking the overall condition.
