Essex is a lovely county but most peoples view is coloured by things like TOWIE on the idiots lantern.
That is Estuary Essex populated by the overspill from the East End of London following the second world war
Once you get North of Harlow you get into proper Essex, a rural area, with large areas of woodland (something I have missed up here in Yorkshire) and surprisingly hilly. Where the accent has more affinity with Suffolk than with London.

Moored a beautiful old clinker yacht on the Blackwater for a few years and lived within walking distance - many a happy hour spent sailing round Mersea and then cursing the tide ...

There are 9 Roding villages. Off my memory I can get: Margaret Roding, White Roding, Abbess Roding, Berners Roding, Aythorpe Roding. White Roding is on what was the A414, one of my favourite stretches of road from Hatfield Heath to Chelmsford, been along it many times. And out that way there are the two Easters - Good Easter and High Easter. Lovely Essex countryside. High Roding as well (as Leaden Roding from my earlier post) but I can't think of another

Roding was absorbed into White Roding. Has anyone canoed on the River Roding. Managed to get from Abridge to Barking Creek almost 60 years ago when the river was in flood.

The whole of the Essex coast is a great area for mucking about in small boats

I knew there were NINE ! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_RodingsI should have remembered Beauchamp Roding ...... When I was in Barking there was a French girl who owned a Belgian barge, I took her out and about in the Essex area and I remember her horrified reaction to the local pronunciation of Beauchamp !!!

I was probably thinking of the number of pints in one of those large Watneys ... Any body want a go at how many Woodfords in Essex the Roding runs through?

The Diane Abbott School of Maths? I was probably thinking of the number of pints in one of those large Watneys ... Any body want a go at how many Woodfords in Essex the Roding runs through? I took a room for a while in one of the Woodfords while I worked at Whipps Cross Hospital. Sorry, can't remember which one but did have a very minor (polite and gentle) rear end shunt with a lovely old lady who stopped at the waterworks roundabout to hang her handbag on the choke during the rush hour. Happy days!
