I was probably thinking of the number of pints in one of those large Watneys ... Any body want a go at how many Woodfords in Essex the Roding runs through? I took a room for a while in one of the Woodfords while I worked at Whipps Cross Hospital. Sorry, can't remember which one but did have a very minor (polite and gentle) rear end shunt with a lovely old lady who stopped at the waterworks roundabout to hang her handbag on the choke during the rush hour. Happy days!
South Woodford which is nearest or Woodford Green.
Spent four hours at Whipps Cross Hospital last Christmas Eve. Seems to have changed very little over the years,

The Diane Abbott School of Maths? Any body want a go at how many Woodfords in Essex the Roding runs through? Too lazy this morning, first job is a lengthy-ish e-mail to 'our' welder, but if you'd like to list them I am slightly curious. It would make for an interesting holiday, just driving a car slowly around Essex visiting lots of pubs and villages and churches. I bet no-one ever does that. Blimey - and we are there soon! Could very well do that ourselves in October. Already next Christmas is the swoosh back down to London and out as quickly as possible before we get murdered... or worse!

How many place names with the -ford suffix are there ?
And is it a greater number than those with the -bridge suffix.
It's all about getting across waterways so would be interesting to know which one has more universal use.
Incredibly interesting in fact.

Logically I suppose, there should be more "fords" than bridges as when most towns and villages were being named bridges were not very common
