Rog "Measure twice, cut once" is the rule for DIY signwriting I think. Personally I'd use Frog tape to make a stuck-on stencil, adjusting it with a craft knife as I went along.

No problem understanding ... I just don't read your posts anymore ... I did read them, but you just keep repeating the same stuff endlessly with underlinings and odd colours. Rog

Dave Moore did our signwriting.Andy Russell has done some painting for us elsewhere. Both are fantastic. When Dave quoted our signwriting,I thought his quote was for one sideπ.Think he did us a good deal as we were both teachers in the same authority & had mutual cleaners/dinner ladies as friends.

As post one, but use proper paint brushes like artist ones, and use thinned enamel paint. Done it once, but then went to vinyls.

I'm not alone in my lunacy then Rog I think it is one of those things you want to try if you do lots of other boat maintenance. It does take a lot of time and concetration.

Did a bit years back, a bow top wagon, bits of gold scrolling. A decent signwriting brush, doesn't have to be sable, helps a lot. And a stick with a wad of rag round the end to use as a rest to steady your hand. Also, can't recall the name of the pencil for marking out, with a chalky "lead".
I re read my post and lo and behold, it surfaced from the depths - Chinagraph pencil!
