Think of the job satisfaction though, looking on it, passers by gongoozling at the wonder, the delicacy of the fine lines, immaculate spacing. On the other hand you could peel vinyl off and use it on a "new to you " boat if you find one you fancy.

Having discussed this idea with Jane, several boaters and you lot, I have been persuaded that vinyl may be a safer and certainly, easier option.
If I should weaken in my resolve to 'have a go' at hand painting, what vinyl companies have you used and would you recommend please ?

Well it's done ... for better or worse !
Just ordered with the graphics boat (thanks @loddon ) a great, easy site to use and see what you are choosing.
Boat names and licence numbers (with the old bridge and bull bushes logo) ordered for £51 including postage.
Apply them whilst blacking in September or next year once all the paint has hardened either way.
