Anyway, on the subject of washing machines, had a bad washing day yesterday (at home). Put my washing in, everything fine. Came to take my washing out, horrible scraping noise when drum rotated. Then I remembered stupidly putting a very small jewellers screwdriver in the breast pocket of my shirt whilst working on the tug annual at Aboyne. Oh dear! Looked for screwdriver in drum, in a hole in drum, around the door seal, took out heater element (which allows one to see the bottom space between inner and outer drum). All no joy. So only recourse is to separate outer drum. Lots of dismantling followed, but it transpired that being a cheapo Beko washing machine the outer drum wasn’t screwed together, it was plastic welded together. That sort of inbuilt inability to service (just buy a new one) should be banned! Then I noticed the screwdriver, minus its blade, poking through the plastic outer drum. Oh well, that’s knackered then. New washing machine on order from AO, since a new drum assembly was about 1/2 the cost of a new machine and it’s already fairly old. The plastic drum will be fixable with a soldering iron, and possibly a bit of extra plastic. Ours got holed by coins left in pockets, although most ended up in the filter. £22 worth, which is apparently a record for our local are.

I did think about welding it up but I also managed to break a small connector so decided someone was telling me to get a new one! It was a pretty cheap washing machine in the first place, and has done quite well.
