Just received a C&RT alert warning that a wide beam boat will be travelling from Dunchurch Pools marina to Braunston between noon and 5pm on Friday.
Didn't realise such notifications had to be made or that alerts were posted.
Seems odd when C&RT permitted the marina to have a wide beam entrance and berths.

I wonder if a militant narrow boater will at some point narrow the passage under the A45 by the turn.

CanalPlanAC says...
Navigational notes 1 – Oxford Canal (Northern Section - Main Line) Managing the safe movement of wide beam boats on the North Oxford Canal The North Oxford Canal between Braunston Junction and Hillmorton Locks is a narrow canal, not designated for wide-beam craft. However, wide-beam craft access to and from Dunchurch Pools and Barby Moorings is permitted, in a single journey (i.e. not mooring on the towpath or offside between Braunston and Hillmorton Locks).
Boaters with wide-beam craft planning travel on the North Oxford Canal, to or from Dunchurch Pools or Barby Moorings, should notify enquiries.westmidlands@canalrivertrust.org.uk one week ahead (where possible * ) of the boat movement with the following information:
Boat index and name Planned date of movement (if a you cannot provide an exact date please provide a range e.g between x date and x date) Direction of movement Contact number for the person who will be navigating the boat * If you are unable to give a week’s notice, please email the West Midlands team as soon as possible so that they can make others aware of wide-beam craft movement on the north Oxford canal
Planned wide-beam boat movements on the north Oxford will be published on the Trust’s notices and stoppages web page.

So a boat moving is a major incident now is it? It's because it's a narrow canal and if two wide beams were travelling in opposite directions at the same time there would likely be problems.

It's outrageous that people have to alter their plans to accommodate someone on an inappropriate boat.
In this sort of weather one wants to be boating not waiting.

Bit silly of CRT to allow the Marina to be a wide beam marina, what they should have done is built a bottle neck of some kind at bridge 90 to stop wide beams going up the first mile or so of the North Oxford canal.

So a boat moving is a major incident now is it? Moving your boat -- A41/ Medlock - Index No 76914 -- is quite likely to cause "a major incident". Just imagine running it over something else, like those submerged 1 x ton craneboat weights you holed it on back in 2017, . . and starting some really serious leaks through all your concrete and chicken wire bodge-ups ! Your insurers wouldn't cover the cost of wreck removal, . . not once they'd got to know about your dodgy so-called repairs, and the condition of the hull plating and frames you hid under the 10(+) ton bodge-up you did in Summer 2018.

At least he can move his boat though eh old chap, yours is sat on grass and the other on the river bed, which will more than likely be joining the other soon enough.

No more so than a pair of loaded boats (motor drawing around 3' 8'' static) passing an empty pair (motor drawing around 3' static) anywhere along the North Oxford, . . or the Coventry, . . or the Moira, . . which is something that used to happen several times every day, . . before the cut got populated with pleasure craft that can't meet a boat coming the other way without leaving a gap big enough for another boat to fit between them.
