Taff has been a faithful friend for over 8 years, we were his fourth owners and his last, over the last few days he has stopped chasing boats and become increasingly lame. He has been on Tramadol to relieve the pain but this morning he could hardly walk, so he has made his last journey and I have lost the best friend a man could ever hope for, so no more Taff cams for the ones that know and goodbye Taff the best Collie dog I could ever hope for

So sorry Peter to read of your loss... Words are always tough to find when you lose a loved one. I know he will be sadly missed, I felt that I knew him, even if only remotely through the Unstable Bar. When Molly died I wrote a small book of my memories of her, times like this I reach for it and have a little read. Taff laid claim to a part of your heart and there he will stay. Take care ...thoughts are with you Patty x

Tough to lose a pal. Jane's sister's 16 year old cat died recently ... a dog got in their garden and attacked it ... she believes it's old heart gave out as it was unmarked. And some folks say "it's only a pet" ... sorry for your loss peterboatRog

There comes a time when you cannot avoid making that decision for a loved pet. Been there, done it, got the T-shirt. Always remember that it would have been cruel in the long run not to have taken that decision, hard though it is. Roger

The Power of the Dog
Rudyard Kipling - 1865-1936
There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; And when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.
Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie— Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear.
When the fourteen years which Nature permits Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits, And the vet’s unspoken prescription runs To lethal chambers or loaded guns, Then you will find—it’s your own affair— But… you’ve given your heart to a dog to tear.
When the body that lived at your single will, With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!). When the spirit that answered your every mood Is gone—wherever it goes—for good, You will discover how much you care, And will give your heart to a dog to tear.
We’ve sorrow enough in the natural way, When it comes to burying Christian clay. Our loves are not given, but only lent, At compound interest of cent per cent. Though it is not always the case, I believe, That the longer we’ve kept ’em, the more do we grieve: For, when debts are payable, right or wrong, A short-time loan is as bad as a long— So why in—Heaven (before we are there) Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

Anybody who has never had a pet will never understand that they are part of the family. Commiserations Peter.
