I find birds fascinating.
Does anyone have any particular favourites in this area?

Saw a kite at Braunston the other day ... loads of buzzards there but the kites are less common.

Rog When we moved to Northamptonshire in 2012 Kites were a rare thing, when we left in 2019 they were as common as muck. Down in Devon they are as rare as hen's teeth we will see where they are in five years time.

There are times when I think Harold Steptoe is a member of this place talking about his 'birds'...

I believe this thread to be about birds of the feathered variety.... I like Robins though I know they r aggressive towards each other, they can be fairly tame. Used to have one when kids were growing up that would come when I whistled. I once got it eating from my hand. Also like European Chaffinches and bull finches...lots of them up Horror house.

Am I the only person who actually understood this post? No ... you're the only person who understood AND slavishly followed the sexist 'On the Buses' style of humour. With our greater intellect and wisdom we usurped the thread Power to the People! Rog

See a reasonable variety in our.garden and it's surrounds, do enjoy spotting raptors. Last week was sitting out and heard a dull thwack sound. Looked up to see a sparrowhawk disappearing over the fence with a sparrow. 4 buzzards circling over us last week. Saw the bearded vulture / lammergaier go over a few months back, looked like a flying barn door.

I saw a baby peacock today! That was a first for me - so "mini-me" as it followed the peahen - even had the little tuft of headgear, too.

They are impressive birds.
I remember years ago being moored at Dodford on the Grand Junction and there was a smallholding place opposite and they had peacocks.
Anyway one night there was a strange splattering noise on top of boat and it turned out one of the peacocks had defecated while in flight.
Not ideal but the noise was quite impressive. You don't often get to hear really large bird shits landing. I feel privileged to have had this experience in my lifetime.
Looking at Google maps it seems they might have had their area wrecked by a bypass being put through there so maybe the peacocks went somewhere else.

I love the sound they make ... a rather plaintive, melancholic cry.
If it's a peacock, and a peahen, should the young be peachicks ?
