So today whilst leaving screwfix in Chesterfield I noticed an ebike flying down the A61 heading north, I was going in the same direction so followed on. It was one of those big tyred low slung beasties and it was going very fast, which probably had something to do with the police car chasing it! Now the cop car didnt have a chance Astra diesel and he was soon bogged down in traffic where he lost sight of the bike just before a big roundabout, the copper went up into town and I followed the A61 north, jsy as I came up to the next roundabout I saw the bike in front, we both went through on green and then the bike left me for dead! I catch up with him and all I can say for sure is he was doing over 70 MPH in a sweatshirt and jeans with no helmet. Now I know their is legislation for the these bikes but until they stop the importation or make them be registered, taxed, tested and insured these bikes are just going to spread like e scooters! Over 70 MPH is just to fast, when he accelerated it pulled a wheelie it was so powerful, I have to say I fancy one as traffic is a nightmare but Oscar the dog would need a a trailer to travel in:D Has anyone else seen one going at these high speeds?

The acceleration on mine is extremely quick, (it often out accelerates cars) but it’s set up to drop out at 20. I could alter it, but wouldn’t feel safe. My next one will be faster, but bigger tyres frame and wheels.

There was the YouTube geyser who did a fast one with honda C90 wheels.
70mph does seem a little fast. At some point it becomes a motorcycle and yes electric motorcycles do exist but they should have a rear number plate and a helmet on the rider.

On the face of it, ebikes are obviously a highly sensible idea. I think the authorities put as many obstacles in the way of making them road-legal as possible because they are all made in China and widespread adoption would damage the Western motorcycle manufacturing industry.

I was thinking about the smaller ones as that seems to be the market that ebikes are making inroads into.
I suppose there is Piaggio.
I'm sure that a lot of producers do actually outsource to far Eastern countries but buyers may not know about or care about this.

My next one will be faster, but bigger tyres frame and wheels. You mean 15.5 mph 😉 I have inherited two of Dad’s bikes, a folding E GO 36 It’s not bad, needed building properly and a swap of shifter but it’s all good now,20” wheels make it a little skittish but it has proved very useful on the boat all be it mega heavy to lug on and off when folded. I also have one of these A Powabyke speed shopper 1/6, made from girders in Somerset about 20 years ago! It has 24” wheels and a twist throttle rather than the mode select the folder uses for speed selection. Dad has crudely modified it to take Li-Ion battery pack, I’ve got to tidy a bit of the wiring up, give it a service then see what it rides like. It will live for most of the year down at Peterborough, it will not be taken away with us as I have no space to fit a small Derrick to maul it about with! I’ll get some pictures of it another day, All the battery cowlings got binned when Dad’s place was cleared out, may go for the stripped out look and shed a bit more weight off it!

Why would you need a derrick to lift that on and off a boat? I very much doubt it weighs as much as Clockwork Banana (48kg) and I get that on and off the boat using nothing more than the plank.

You are incredibly masculine and no longer need a woman.

We have a folding one as well, (grey import). That is ridiculously fast, and even has a throttle. With 20 inch wheels, it’s downright bloody dangerous. It pulls a wheely if starting with the throttle rather than pedals. Very light.

As a total aside, sorry, peterboat just wondering where Screwfix is in Chesterfield? I lived in Wingerworth and New Whittington for a few years and worked for Littlewoods when they were on the corner of the market square. Imagine it's all very different now but sincerely hope they still hold the Thursday flea market ...

Cruiser with a bow rail to get round at the pointy end and cockpit coamings to get it over at the blunt end.it is also a big lump taking up a lot of space we don’t have. would work ok on a sewer tube or a decent sized barge.

The bottom end, do you remember where the road goes off to the M1 south from the A61? well if you continue going south from there on Derby road you will pass the cinema and a food complex on the left then there is screwfix and the Gym on the left as well. There is another Screwfix up by Morrisons and a Tool Station on Whittington Moor
