It was on radio 2 earlier, seemed open and shut to me admitted the crime caught on camera doing it, its criminal damage simples If you were caught on camera passing a red traffic light to let a fire engine through and admitted it. Would you consider it a simple case of guilty?

I suppose it should be asked why the statue was there in the first place?

I suppose it should be asked why the statue was there in the first place? It’s not the statue that was on trial. What if they came along and pinched your car, chucked it in a river or canal because they considered you were polluting the planet. Would you remind yourself of why you had the car in the first place.

A jury of their peers has found them not guilty ... they clearly considered their actions were justified in line with their defence arguments.
That's how our system works ... we have to accept the jury view whether we agree or not (assuming no miss trial is involved).

The case seems to have been decided on the question "Was slavery wrong?" rather than on the facts and the law. With four defendants there would have been plenty of opportunities to object to potential jurors until a likely looking jury was selected.

The wording requires 'without lawful excuse' ... the jury apparently considered they had a lawful excuse.
My home town is not relevant.

Rog Of course your home town is relevant when it comes to your views, it’s a lawless town where apathy is rife. After yesterday’s judgement, the whole country could be as bad as Rotherham.

You can't help yourself can you ... I wasn't on the jury so what I think is irrelevant.
The defence arguments must have been very persuasive.

"The city of Bristol has said it will retrieve the statue of Edward Colston and place it in a museum after protesters hurled the monument into the harbour as part of anti-racism protests on Sunday, and add the cost to everyone's council tax bill."

Surely those jurors have been so influenced by such excessive media coverage in the intervening period that they can no longer be "impartial"?

Surely those jurors have been so influenced by such excessive media coverage in the intervening period that they can no longer be "impartial"? That sums the whole scenario up.

And I was like "these BLM protesters they are all white. What's going on there then?"
Isn't it.
I really dislike this dumbing down where people outside of the topic become offended on the behalf of others who may very well not give a toss.
It's bad.
Also incredibly patronising and bordering on racist I reckon.

Anyway, does the judgement mean we can now throw David Lammy and Angela Raynor into the drink, or is it only statues?
