It means that one jury found four defendant's not guilty ... another jury will reach their own verdict on evidence presented.
If we consider the jury system is the best available, we have to accept an occasional verdict we find perverse don't we ?

Not sure about the jail, they should have been found guilty and dealt with accordingly. Two week holiday in Bedworth as a suitable punishment? Ello you xxx

A jury of their peers has found them not guilty ... they clearly considered their actions were justified in line with their defence arguments. That's how our system works ... we have to accept the jury view whether we agree or not (assuming no miss trial is involved). Rog I can tell you come from Rotherham. So do I, well Swallownest but I think they were guilty and something very odd happened in court

I can tell you come from Rotherham. So do I, well Swallownest but I think they were guilty and something very odd happened in court The point I am failing to make is ... they DID do damage unarguably ... however a jury found them not guilty having been persuaded that in the circumstances their actions amounted to having lawful excuse. I haven't said, and it is unimportant whether you or I agree or disagree. They have been processed and tried by a jury of their peers and found not guilty. Rog

Is there scope for the CPS to appeal? Not sure. It seems the answer is yes (in a manner).
CPS refers the matter to the Attorney General.
Attorney General considers and can ask the Court of Appeal to consider whether the law(s) was applied correctly or not.

It’s apparently being reviewed.

"The city of Bristol has said it will retrieve the statue of Edward Colston and place it in a museum after protesters hurled the monument into the harbour as part of anti-racism protests on Sunday, and add the cost to everyone's council tax bill."
well thank you so much for telling us all the background to this court case. Without your contribution we would never have guessed what it was all about. I lived in Bristol for 50 years but never heard about it.
DUHHHH !!

It’s apparently being reviewed. That’s surprising 😊

It’s apparently being reviewed. That’s surprising 😊 I don't think so ..... I would have said it was bound to be as there is a strong "public interest" in people not getting away with vandalism of public property (whatever the woke think)
that sentence opens too many worm cans

The conduct of the trial can be fully reviewed ... I don't believe the jury verdict can (unless evidence of tampering is available).
And the law has not changed ... others will continue to be processed for criminal damage, charged, and tried where appropriate.
The real issue is do we still think trial by jury is the correct method ?

Any review/appeal should concentrate on the Law not how the Law is carried out.

I was speaking tongue in cheek. Obviously it will be reviewed because Pritti and her gang don’t like/agree with the outcome. I have some sympathy with the protesters. Such statues shouldn’t be on display.

Despite this and other perverse verdicts that fly in the face of logic, I agree @dj ... I think a jury remains the most 'just' method.
