There will be a lot of boats for sale this winter.
For many this must be the final straw. Not the increase but the insult. Many old boaters have expressed their frustration over being unable to "boat" this year - and now they're being charged more not to....

CRT suggestion that boats only account for 12% of its income is nothing more than weasel words. Parry and co have made it policy to undermine boat owning financial input. Boating contributes more than 25% to CRT income. The problem is, Parry and co fiddle figures, as we have recently discovered. Most at CRT can't even spell honesty, let alone produce it.

Ultimately, a boat owner is the biggest paying user, yet they are treated like shit by the crt shower.

Whilst they often drive me mad during the summer months, I really DO genuinely feel for the Bob and Margies of this world who pay to keep their boat somewhere for half the year and then just want to use it when the sun shines. They pay the same as us.
They can't go anywhere now. They can't let the dog out in the overgrowth in case he gets run over by a time trialler who contributes nothing. They can't risk being too many locks away from their home mooring as they're all failing....
They are looking at not only double the diesel prices this year but now this.
I'm glad I live on my boat!

I guess Iβm outta step here at times. I think inland boating offers good value for money. I donβt like price increases but itβs happening all over the country. Why would the waterways be any different?

If people can't afford to pay and genuinely live on their boats rather than being awful BTL landlord parasite scumbags then housing benefit will often pay for the licenses and moorings. I know of people who have had non residential moorings paid for like this.
Obviously this doesn't help people who own both houses and boats but in that situation the boat is quite obviously a luxury which is not necessarily needed.
One cuts one's coat according to one's cloth.
As someone mentioned earlier it would take a lot more than a 4% increase to take canal licenses out of "amazing bargain" territory.
Its basically too cheap. Far too cheap.

Why would the waterways be any different? That's pretty much it. CRT are going to be paying more for raw materials, fuel for vehicles, energy costs for buildings, staff wages, obviously the cost of licences is going to rise. If you want to blame anybody, blame the Covid bedwetters who shut down UK PLC for two years and the eu lovers who are largely responsible for war in Ukraine.

Now is still going to be someones good old days of boating. Rog Given the problems being encountered this year, I doubt that very much.

Met loads of hire boaters and share boaters (tomorrows boat owners) having a wonderful time ... readily accepting restrictions and closures and cheerfully coming up with plan b or c
