On this we do agree. Identity is important.

Feel free to quote your successes. VAT on licences, MNC, Halcyon Daze, Planet lightship are just a few of your most recent failures, MUG. You forgot Selby Michael.

Its quite an interesting thing to consider the costs associated with running a canal system and the current "we are going to have to put interest rates up soon" economics.
One does suppose that canals are basically irrelevant in the greater scheme of things. People who are lucky enough to own boats and in a position to use them as a pleasure pursuit should probably be thankful overall.
Compared to the overall number of inhabitants of this rather marvellous country canal boat owners must be an incredibly tiny minority.
Obviously on a boating forum people will put out negative commentary around price rises but in reality its probably a better position to be in than the awful choice some people have which is do we renew the Sky subscription or buy the kids new shoes.
Hard times on the horizon. I

It is quite a large multi-headed beast the whole Canal & River Trust thing.
Easy to criticise I know, but for such a large organisation with a huge range of responsibilities the one thing they seem to fail at consistently is communication ... with us the customers ... but also with each other !

Rog Lack of office culture. Multi headed is actually a good description for their present situation. Working from home, miles away from the nearest canal and colleagues, definitely a recipe for failure. The present situation is all the evidence that's needed.

BoE meet on Thursday and it's pretty much a given that they are going to raise interest rates by 0.5%. So for a house dweller with a Β£100,000 mortgage that's Β£500 extra a year. And it's only just begun. Next to that, Β£80 on a boat licence doesn't look too heartbreaking.

Demand destruction is what is needed. I suppose one must be careful not to piss off property owners too much in terms of looking at getting re-elected but while the Labour have nobody the tories will probably win whatever happens. Someone needs to step up to the plate here and sort this shit out.

When you take into account that most peoples wages/pensions will have gone up by a similar percentage anyway.

This from an undischarged bankrupt who has lost every argument, court claim and counterclaim that he has been involved in. So says the latest recruit to the ranks of the mealy-mouthed cunts who spout unsubstantiated twaddle from behind what they hope is the protection of anonymity. Identify yourself, . . and get your made-up 'facts' straight, . . or shut up ! why bother replying Tony ..... Covoid is the sock puppet of a sock puppet.
anybody who hides their identity to make attacks is simply a coward and not worth a split seconds consideration

Met loads of hire boaters and share boaters (tomorrows boat owners) having a wonderful time ... readily accepting restrictions and closures and cheerfully coming up with plan b or c Rog It is wonderful out on the water. We boat every year for about 8 months on board. This costs us maybe 5/6 k for the year. People pay that for a couple of weeks abroad. True and nawadays they dont get there because of staffing problems!!
