You/we really need to campaign about these closed services kris . The stoppages/closures at nearly every Elsan this summer have been ridiculous. Hotspots - Napton, Braunston, Fradley, Gailey, etc etc. Mostly down to mismanagement I fear as they are "overflowing" or "blocked" - i.e. no ongoing contract for emptying? This has been a relatively quiet season, which makes it worse. Great Haywood waterpoint was out for about 10 days (a really busy hub with no more water for many miles and locks in any direction but I believe dogless paid the boatyard there for a tankful when he made a special journey there (apologies if I got that wrong dogless ) and is out of action AGAIN after less than two weeks.... Not sure which way to head next I phoned CRT. Got through to the West Midlands area who told me they know no more than us .... closed on 9th August...contractors will be contacted... glad I bothered phoning for no information days later.... I tend to agree. Two out of the four service blocks I’ve passed this year have been closed. I’m not sure how to take it further at the moment. They’ve refused to answer my foi request. I was thinking of putting another one in, but I’m a bit busy at the moment. I definitely agree, that it’s one of the most important issues. When these services are closed they will go and never will open again. It does make a big difference for people who move around. It's making it miserable for a lot of the holidaymakers/sharers and cruisers out of their marinas too, kris - but they won't complain. I met two on the towpath only today who are having to change their plans because a major waterpoint is out of action. They mutter and moan to their fellow sharers but go home on Friday with one less shower and their hair in a mess. I have tried explaining that they need to complain not just to their fellow moorers but to CRT/the hire company/the share operator because next time they'll be boiling kettles out of the canal (if they can bear the thought of it when all the Elsans are blocked or closed) and buying bottles of water from Tesco.

We just have to get as many people as possible to complain. I’ll see if I can get another foi request in.

The closure of waterpoints and elsans must surely contravene some health and safety legislation if you're compelled to travel for more than, for instance, 12 hours to access drinking water or dispose of your effluent?

Maybe they will default to the byelaw which says nobody shall use a boat as a dwelling.

Writing to your mp comes to mind. I had cause to write to mine about crt. They did get in touch with crt about the issue and crt backed off. So not to be dismissed.

Maybe they get a new man in charge who can sort this shit rather than a career CEO type useless dickhead who likes his pay packet.

I think the MP for Lichfield (Fabricant?) has something to do with CRT - I can be in and around that area for a while so might try contacting him.

The thing is crt are doing everything/anything to deny being a landlord. But in reality they are a defacto landlord to tens of thousands of people and have been for years.

In reality the CRT are landlords to the very few people who have residential moorings owned and administered by the Trust. Anyone else who is living on a boat on CRT water is just winging it and taking advantage of a good situation while it is available. No security there. I presume people are aware of this.

Thank the lord we've found what the management team are good at ! Perhaps this kind of pressure group work and politics will be Mr Parry's forte. To be honest researching the backgrounds of the C&RT management group doesn't seem to evidence ANY waterways knowledge or experience. And they seem to have sold off all equipment, and contracted out any experience. At a time when money for the waterways is, understandably becoming tight and a low priority in the state of the nation, this isn't the position from which a potentially long period of austerity should be started. And talking with C&RT's few remaining employees (if you can find one) demoralisation and despondency seems to be the prevailing mood. Things can only get better 😁 Rog PS they may get worse first 👍 You asked. P.s
