Is it just me or does everyone get a sense of foreboding the day before the exam ?
Our boat was built three years before the introduction of the BSS in 1996 so it always feels to be a bit of a 'square peg in a round hole'.
It's odd because I never worry about an MOT test on a car.
Roll the dice and we'll see what we see I suppose.

I always worry about the BS scheme. Hate it.
I do take it personally as I moved onto my first narrow boat in April 1994 and have lived on boats ever since.
So yeah. Taken personally.

If they have previously passed the boat it would seem unlikely that they would fail it for something other than some regulation change, or obvious degradation (gas locker!).

This will be our fifth exam and all previously carried out by the same guy, but he's now retired. It's not like we live onboard, or are destitute and couldn't afford for any works to be done ... but the exam always feels intrusive and personal as Claire β says. At least I have no gas locker worries π Rog

Mine is due in December, but I am having it done in October taking advantage of the 2 months before rule, I am using a friend even though he will charge more for traveling. Recently the ones doing our area have turned into real arses! I t seems like a way to get extra money for multiple revisits? Mine will do it with a few other boats in the area to reduce the cost to us all you have to remember CRT takes 68 squids of the fee!!!!

Suppose itβs because my vehicles tend not to be run of the mill.

Do CRT really get Β£68 of the fee? I thought the BS scheme was now self funding and a separate entity to CRT/EA.

It doesn't tell you whether CRT 'profit' from the scheme though, or put money into the scheme.

If the BSS was cancelled would CRT and the EA lose money, or gain money, or neither.
